Thanks so much Keith, Anne. Time seems to have flown by since we were first speaking about moving house, the kids getting their own careers, place and lives. It all seems to have come neatly to fruition! It's great to know that we are on the same page in terms of advice and service. Our cash flow system has shown that you can fulfil your money and non money ambitions and not worry about the shorter term gyrations (in the economy, in interest rates, inflation etc). Let's hope 2024 turns out to be a better year!

How has Dr Markas Gilmartin helped you since your last review?

to a large extent our strategies for retirement income, inheritance tax planning, and stockbroking have now been in place for some time, so no new projects have needed to be started. However being now well past the usual retirement age, and not necessarily having the sufficient knowledge to monitor everything ourselves, we occasionally need to consult with Marcus to just clarify some aspects of our previous plans and how they are working out. This is where our relationship with Marcus is really helpful. Whether we have contacted by phone or email, in person or through his secretary, we are sure to get a quick and full response. That goes a long way to feeling we have an advisor we can rely on and who genuinely has our interests at heart. When you have an advisor like that, you really don't want to find a different one.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I did not like the inheritance tax advice from my existing financial advisers. Through my networking contacts I was advised to have a discussion with Markas. Right from our first meeting he impressed both me, and more importantly my wife. The care he took to take into account every aspect of our lives /income/investment/tax liabilities/and future hopes and plans was impressive

How has Dr Markas Gilmartin helped you?

he has advised on our previous and future investments and tax liabilities. this resulted in a much safer investment profile which has been performing well and consistently over the last 5 years. Given the inheritance tax liabilities we went into equity release of a small proportion of our property, thereby reducing the inheritance tax for the children, and at the same time giving us a very welcome tax free monthly income to supplement our existing pensions

yes it has all worked out well, and Markas remains vigilant over our developing circumstances and making sure that the strategy remains applicable. and in our best interests

What could they have done better?

Given what has been said above, we can't find anything that he could have done better, and have already recommended him to other friends.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

was not happy with inheritance tax planning offered by my previous financial adviser. Marcus came highly recommended through my networking contacts

How has Dr Markas Gilmartin helped you?

did a complete analysis and cash flow /tax forecast starting from our current situation and projected till end of life expectancy. Included life events/possibilities such as forthcoming childrens' weddings and downsizing house. regular reviews to monitor how events were developing and suggesting alternative courses of action, when the planned for downsizing was ruled out. Also he looked at our investment portfolios and pointed out the weaknesses and exposures we had. the investment portfolios were consolidated into a more appropriate mix, and full use made of ISAs. eventually. Inheritance tax planning was put in place, and equity release used to both mitigate IHT and to compensate for no longer having downsizing in the financial plan. Investments were also modified to obtain further tax advantages associated with the AIM. so over the last 5 years or so we feel that we get a totally professional and personalised service which gives us peace of mind that we can enjoy a good retirement, and that our children will not have to foot large IHT bills. we simply did not have the experience to handle these issues without professional help. Throughout our dealings with Markas we have learnt that he is very clear in explaining why he is suggesting various courses of action, and we have never had any reason to not trust his advice. We would be happy to thoroughly recommend him.

Yes. We have helped my daughter to get on the housing ladder, we have helped fund our son's and our daughters weddings, and replaced an ageing family car

My dad passed away and I was left a sum of money. I knew I did not want to leave it in a bank as it would eventually start to decease in value over time so I sought financial advice to explore ways I could invest to for it to grow.

I run a business that produces large amounts of profits. Running my business is a full time job, so I required assistance to help with making good choices around investing the profits from the business. The business currently has a fund managed by Markas and his team.

Yes. I am happy with how the fund has performed with respect to the industry average at the time.

What could they have done better?

I do not have any reasons to suggest change to Markas and his team. As I am a busy person, I do not encourage constant communication, instead we have the right amount of contact. I do not find him & team in any way pushy - he is happy and encouraging of me to diversify and invest in other things outside of his management (eg EIS schemes I am personally involved with, or paying off mortgages) - which is in contrast to other managers I have worked with would be heavy handed with "give me all your money" advice. The only advise I would have with Markas would be 'keep doing what your doing'.

Age! I am 77 and my husband is 80 and we needed advice about long term care and investment .

Dr. Markas is incredibly intelligent and always at the end of the telephone if you need him. He is also very good natured; one has the feeling that he really wants to help.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

So far he has been brilliant. He had to sell the funds in a trust I had as the previous investor (pre Covid) had let the funds slip quite badly. Markas sold them in mid May with a surprisingly good profit.

What could they have done better?

So far, NOTHING.

That's so kind Pam. As I think you are beginning to understand, we know we strive to improve client outcomes wherever we can and so feedback is vital to that process. We certainly dont have a crystal ball but a combination of prphylactics, vaccies and track and trace via both Antibody and Antigen testing, should help us make the most of the enormous global efforts we see to get the economy on track. At least your now in a good place to see that through after considering the strategy very careflly over the last 3-4 months.

Markas has been advising me since 2005, on all of the above areas, and looking after an increasing range of products on a balanced risk basis.

Yes, I feel that I have seen capital growth that I have expected. And means to take income as I have done from time to time to service other demands such as gifts, property acquisitions and so on.

This is not so much a criticism as a fact, I think. Both parties take time to understand the balance of risk and reward. I think this really says that developing a long term relationship with an adviser provides the best long term outcomes.
