Imminent retirement and my own lack of understanding or interest in learning anything about pensions, financial planning and investment.

He stops me worrying about 'money'. Not completely. I do need a meeting every 6/12 to a year just to re-boost my confidence around money and spending it! I trust him to make the best decisions for me. The element of trust is crucial. I was cautious at first but now I know Thomas 'gets' me and tailors his advice to my individual outlook on life and living.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. Thomas's advice has enabled me to live my dream. Without his advice I would definitely have been to scared to spend as I have on a new 'soul singing' property. Without his advice my quality of life would be significantly less exciting than it is!

I have no idea! From my perspective everything is done in a very timely professional and friendly way.

I had had a number of IFA's earlier in my career and I came to look back on their advice with some disappointment. I changed to Thomas approximately 15 years ago on a recommendation from a colleague who was a satisfied customer. The clarity and detail of the advice that I have received from Thomas since then has been ideal for my needs. With the support of his team he has tailored his services to my evolving needs in a way that has always made me feel well informed about my financial situation and that my planning for the future fits closely to my needs and wishes.

How has Thomas Dickson helped you?

He has helped me with pension, investment and inheritance tax planning. He and his team have also advised me for a number of mortgage applications. His support and advice when I was going through divorce was absolutely crucial in my being able to manage a deeply traumatic financial situation.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, so far!

What could they have done better?

It is difficult to think of many examples. Some years ago an administrative error resulted in a change of investment that I had requested not being carried out. Once this became apparent Thomas initiated a comprehensive complaints resolution process that entirely settled the matter and illustrated a very professional approach.

You also highlighted an important point about what happens when things go wrong. We are of course human and occasionally make mistakes. I've just checked our records and this admin issue happened over 10 years ago in May 2013. Our ethos then is the same as it is now. It was obvious from when we first realised what had happened, that we were going to put you back in the position you should have been in - whatever the cost to us. It's simple - we treat our clients the way we'd want to be treated. The fact that you've remained a client - and a passionate advocate for us as well - further demonstrates why this approach can work for all types of businesses. Another helpful and useful meeting. Although we were invited to travel to Thomas’ offices in Birmingham, we chose to accept the online invitation for convenience. As usual, we were given time to update Thomas on our plans, our hopes, and our concerns, before moving on to the agenda we’d prepared together. The Wealthwide team had worked with us in advance of our meeting, to ensure figures were up to date, so that we got the most out of our discussion. We feel very satisfied that Thomas continues to monitor our financial situation. He takes on board our particular needs, and listens carefully to our thoughts and ideas, adjusting his advice so that we feel confident to make decisions that suit us.

Becoming a widower at a relatively young age. Realising that I had never considered my financial situation in changed circumstances.

By understanding my particular circumstances; by helping me to appreciate my financial situation and so enabling me to invest my savings with a view to taking early retirement without worrying.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes - it has been a changing landscape, but Thomas has always been rereads to adapt the plan accordingly.

What could they have done better?

Very little. I was perhaps much more naive with regards to finances than Thomas might have appreciated at the outset, but he was always able to explain once I learnt how to ask the right questions.

As financial planners we often find ourselves working with clients at a difficult stage in their life - such as a bereavement or a divorce. Frankly I don't know how people manage without the help of a trusted adviser - although I appreciate I'm a little biased on that point. I also love your phrase .."taking early retirement without worrying". The key part is the "without worrying" element and that's where the detailed financial planning comes into it's own, where we can create a cashflow model that graphically illustrates you never need to work again. The team and I look forward to continuing to work with you and adapting your plan accordingly.

Thomas has helped me navigate the very difficult process of buying a house that makes my soul sing. The destination exceeds any expectations I had but the journey was difficult. Thomas provided a balanced intelligent honest and well reasoned sounding board when I was at my catastrophising worst! This helped me to continue to move forward and achieve my dreams. I am very grateful. I am not really interested in the mechanics of financial investment and without Thomas's advice and guidance I would really worry about what I was doing or not doing with any money I have. . Thomas removes this worry because I trust him to make reasonable and rational decisions on my behalf (with my agreement) about how to invest and how much risk to take. I know that not all the decisions he and his team make on my behalf will with have optimal outcomes but as they don't have crystal balls this is to be expected. I know they will do the very best they can with the information and experience they have and I am very comfortable with that. The key word here is trust.
