What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I wanted to take early retirement and Lisa advised on the best way to do this by transferring a defined benefit employers pension into a platform so that I could draw down on to allow the level of income I required.

I was looking to transfer my pension to enable me to retire early. There were so many IFA's around and we used Vouched For to search for someone we could rely on.

We met Lisa in 2019 & explained our aspirations about retiring early & needing the flexibility that transferring my pension would bring. She commissioned a report and we were able to transfer my pension & I retired on my 55th birthday.

An elderly person needing a plan for future care costs, whilst investing in a way that will also be effective for inheritance planning.

How has Lisa Footes helped you?

Assessed elderly persons assets and projected care costs under various eventualities, before coming up with a solution to plan for that person's needs during their lifetime and inheritance planning at the same time. Advice encompassed money held in trust as well as held directly by the elderly person concerned.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Too early to make a judgement on the long term performance of assets allocated, but there is a plan in place which has been fully explained and which takes into account attitudes to risk of stakeholders in question. It is also a plan which has been devised with tax efficiency in mind. We have the comfort and security of ongoing advice and support - with real sense of care and concern that our needs are well-met. This is everything we hoped for.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Confusion about how to handle a collection of legacy pensions led us to seek help. Following a recommendation from a friend, Lisa and her staff have assisted us magnificently in this respect!

How has Lisa Footes helped you?

Targeted, specific and pertinent advice and support that allowed us to extricate ourselves from the confused state we were in, and put our financial affairs on a much more considered and well-managed footing.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. In particular I found Lisa's explanations of various complicated issues extremely clear, insightful and to the point.

What could they have done better?

For 'newbies' such as us, some of the more 'mechanical' aspects of the process were somewhat confusing and obscure. For example - the use of 'DocuSign' to approve documents. Once I had seem that in action and used it a few times it was obvious what was going on and how to use it, but that understanding didn't just come instantly.

Frustration that the investments I had made had not given any appreciable return and the money I had was not working hard enough and was distributed over too many accounts

Coming up to retirement I did not want to take annuities with my company pension. I contacted Lisa via the IFA web site and also on the recommendation of a work colleague.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

The need to sort out my brother's long term care and the need to think about use of an inheritance for future care for my husband and me.

Unfortunately my mother passed away in 2016. My sister and I inherited a substantial amount of money each and were looking for a financial advisor to help each of us manage it. After a disappointing meeting with a competitor, Lisa Footes was recommended to us by a family member.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Having left employed status I hadn't paid into a pension for a number of years. I was concerned with not planning sufficiently for the future. Coupled with this, having left the world of employment this meant I no longer had benefits such as death in service. In general I felt that I had a lack of awareness and control over my financial portfolio. Having set up my company and with plans to move house I felt I needed the benefit of independent advice to get 'my finances in order'.

How has Lisa Footes helped you?

Lisa took the time to understand my requirements, what protections I had in place, what I didn't have, level of savings / investments etc. She carried out a holistic review of my finances. Once she'd consolidated all of the relevant information, Lisa put together a proposed plan for me. She also helped me prioritise. For example, initially my main concern was the fact I wasn't making regular contributions to a pension. However in light of imminent plans to move house, Lisa recommended prioritizing the various activities required such as the taking out new insurance policies (e.g. critical illness etc). Lisa also identified opportunities for me to improve my return on investments.

Lisa has supported me through every step. She has helped break down my portfolio into an easy to follow structure, she uses plain English to discuss the various options and products available to me. Lisa has always been really clear and transparent with her practices and recommendations. At no point have I ever felt condescended or as though I'm being asked to do anything I don't understand or want to do. The outcome I wanted was visibility of my portfolio, ability to easily track my investments, and to feel rest assured that I have suitable arrangements in place for the future / or to protect my family should the worst happen. Having not had a financial adviser previously, I have nothing to compare Footes Financial too. Having been put in a position where my Mum needed to go into care as there were no other support mechanisms that could help her due to being let down by in home care, we needed a way of paying for this long term.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Having left work early ,in February 19, to care for my terminally ill nephew, I needed to access my pension at 55 in December. I spoke to Pension wise & did my research & knew that I wanted more flexibility & therefore decided a pension transfer was for me. I was recommended to an IFA by a friend but soon it became clear that his London company's targets were more important than my requirements, so I looked on Vouched for website & selected Lisa Footes due to client reviews and her location.

How has Lisa Footes helped you?

We had an initial phone conversation with Lisa & at the end of the call I said to my husband "Lisa's the one". She was knowledgeable and really listened to us. She was confident she could help us and we met at her office. Lisa listened to hopes for retirement & we found her very professional but importantly, she explained everything in simple to understand language. Lisa analysed our income & outgoings figures plus our view to risk assessment and produced really informative projections reports based on our circumstances. She obtained all the information from the pension scheme provider & we met again. Between the meetings we received email & telephone updates personally from Lisa that reassured us that she was on the case & we knew exactly what was happening. Any questions we had were responded to immediately. Lisa totally understood our reasons for wanting to transfer & explained the process and risks thoroughly. As the pension transfer process requires a licence holder to finalise a report, Lisa arranged a colleague to work with us & Lisa. The conclusion was an extremely detailed report that concluded that the pension transfer was recommended. Within the report was a list of investments that Lisa had produced that were based on her discussions with us & we knew exactly where our money was going. Lisa advised us that the transfer could take 3 months. However, within 3 weeks the transfer had been completed! This is obviously due to Lisa's hard work ensuring all the documentation was in place. We have access to an online portal which is really transparent & helpful. Lisa is a people person. She really cares about her clients and puts their needs first. We were going through a highly emotional time and she treated us so sympathetically & cared about what we were going through. Lisa helped us to secure our retirement and make sure we can start our retirement activities whilst we're healthy enough to do them. We can't thank her enough. Initially it was to get the best funded care for my late Mom. Later, we sought Lisa's advice for my wife to transfer, or not a final salary pension .

How has Lisa Footes helped you?

Lisa sought all of the viable solutions for Mom and we ended up taking out a care annuity to help protect remaining assets to fund the care over as long a period as could be achieved. She then gave us a contact for a later life care advisor who was brilliant in finding care home and nursing home options for Mom. Lisa is currently advising us on pension plans as a couple looking to retire in the next 5 years or so

I wanted to transfer my pension fund from Gkn driveline pension to a draw down pension. Which a friend of mine had done using Lisa and recommended her to me.

How has Lisa Footes helped you?

Explaining all aspects both positives and negatives of the draw down pension. Also helped us when there was a problem with the tax (I was getting taxed too much on my pension). She contacted transact and told them that they had my tax number wrong and was charging me by day rather than month.

We are consciously trying to reduce our footprint and do now upload all reports electronically under your own secure portal which acts as a filing system.
