What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was in the process of retiring and had a number of pensions that needed to be consolidated. In addition we had a small property portfolio which we hoped would supplement our pensions. As a consequence we needed the help of an IFA.

How has Chris Ioannou helped you?

Chris visited us and spent a long time finding out our needs and objectives. Chris guided us through many options until we arrived at a solution. The solution was to invest in a pension umbrella investment fund administered by Chris. In addition Chris helped us to expand our Buy to Let portfolio by seeking out the best mortgage for a particular property and circumstances. Chris has sort out some five mortgages in the last 12 months for us and family members. As a consequence, our property portfolio has approximately trebled in the last 18 months, the value of our investments have increased by some 60% and we have a close friend who we can call upon for any circumstance because if Chris doesn't know the answer he will have an expert at his fingertips to whom we can be referred in confidence and confidentiality.

Chris has helped us to more than exceed the outcome we were hoping for. We now need to plan for the future and look at making our Wills and inheritance planning.

Chris was amazing. From the very moment I contacted him on a recommendation from a friend he was extremely helpful, professional and engaging. He collected all the details about my financial position and was able to talk me through the different options that i faced. We did some calculations to make sure that we were happy with the lending amounts and affordability of the new mortgage. Once i found a house, Chris helped by liaising with the estate agent and my solicitor to help get the vendor to accept the offer. Chris had taken all the details from me and was able to process them in a timely manner with the bank and get everything up and running. Once the offer was accepted Chris followed up by pointing out various aspects which might be of concern his diligence and knowledge of the market was very helpful. As a first time buyer from Thailand, I was introduced to Chris by a friend in the UK.

Even though I wasn’t looking for financial advice in terms of my mortgage (as I was a cash buyer) but was seeking for more information regarding the legal aspects of the purchase and assist in finding a suitable conveyancor), he generously gave me a call and took the time to thoroughly guide me through the buying process and legal necessities. After a long conversation regarding my budget and circumstances (My lack of knowledge about the legal processes of a property purchase as reading up on countless websites can only prepare you so much), he took me through the steps of a property purchase ironing out any confusions or misunderstandings I had with the different types of surveys, property insurance, and even informed me of possible additional costs such as surveyor fees, local searches, services inspections etc. just to make sure I wasn’t in for any surprises. I was looking at a commercial/residential listed building so he extensively informed me of all the conditions and possible pitfalls regarding the listed status. By taking into account all his valuable advice, I was made to feel very confident in my decision making from that point onwards. Chris recommended a paralegal that had had prior experience in the commercial property sales for a banking entity which suited me perfectly. After acquiring his services the conveyancing was handled on my behalf efficiently and promptly keeping me informed of the process while I awaited completion in Thailand. The person he recommended was very easily accessible (we liased by daily emails) and handled all communications with no difficulties considering the geographical difference.

I could not have hoped for a smoother purchase of my new property and would highly recommend Prestige IFA to anyone. His broad expertise in the field and his inclination to transfer this knowledge to his clients so as to allow them to have better understanding is something I really appreciate. We needed a mortgage that the banks were saying was unachievable. We went to a few brokers and finally decided on Chris because apart from being hungry and enthusiastic for the challenge, he was presenting options that no one else had been able to.

My financial situation involved the consideration of 5 fully owned flats plus a mortgaged main residence. My need for advice was to help me decide whether to buy an additional property for my Uni student daughter to live in. Could she get a mortgage if I acted as G'tee. Would it be better to gift her money to buy it herself. Would the banks lend on this basis, would HMRC treat it as buy to let etc etc. Chris listened very well and understood the significance of my situation to a lender. He was prompt in his response, supplied several options and I was clear about what questions to ask my accountant regarding my own tax situation prior to making any decisions. Chris offers service rather than being driven by making a quick commission. Also, willing to talk outside of core working hours which meant that I could avoid communication whilst at work I felt I could trust him. Many IFA do make up the answers if they don't have the data. Chris went away and found out the accurate factual answers for me.

We first met Chris some 5 years ago and have now met up with him again. His initial advice was good and now that markets have changed he has reviewed our portfolio and advised us of changes which need to be made. He takes his time explaining the situation and his reasoning, supplying full details of funds he recommends and their history. He acts quickly upon phone calls and whilst we now don't live near to him he has taken the time to come and see us.

What could they have done better?

Whilst at the initial interview he promised he would watch the markets and make the necessary changes at the appropriate time, however he was a little slow in confirming in writing all that had been discussed. Receiving written confirmation of what was said at the meeting within a few days would have been helpful even though he did not feel the time was right to act accordingly.

Hi Jean, thanks for your feedback and my sincerest apologies for not exceeding your expectations and achieving my much coveted 5 stars. I promise to make this up to you both in the future. To explain, at the time of our meeting (October 2014) the markets had just suffered from a short but sharp fall, and with much of the market volatility over that period being driven by short term market psychology and investor emotion rather then the basic fundamentals, I felt that this fall would be short lived. As such any changes made to your portfolio at the time would have taken you out of the market for a short time and potentially unable to benefit from any sudden market recovery. It now appears we were correct to wait as a sharp market recovery did quickly take place, and we were not only able to benefit from this, but the changes we later made following my further review once the markets had calmed meant we were better positioned to assess your portfolio’s true performance and were able to also safely increase the ‘natural’ income (dividend & interest income) being earned from your investments to further enrich your retirement lifestyles. Again please accept my sincerest apologies, but my reason for not confirming any fund switches at the time of our initial meeting was due to the likely hood that any such recommendations made would later need re-reviewing and amending before implementing once the markets had settled.

I've been searching online for Financial Advisors in the Manchester, North West region to source Bridging Finance. I started searching online and spoke with many 'specialists' in bridging finance who claimed to search whole of market, all of whom were looking to charge high fees for bridging finance that didn't particularly suit my requirements. How has Chris Ioannou helped you?

Cannot have asked for a better service from Prestige IFA. Chris was absolutely brilliant. All it took was a phone call to discuss our financial situation and what we were after in terms of property and Chris quickly came back with a number of mortgage options (better than we had managed to find by ourselves) and our mortgage, solicitor and insurance was sorted quickly and efficiently. I'd get the occasional letter with a 'please sign this' form and then a couple of months later we owned our house and moved in. I have since recommended Chris to 6 friends and they have all taken advantage of his excellent advice, expertise and service. Extremely happy and to top it all off, he worked from a commission so it cost us nothing!
