What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Mark reviewed my current investments, savings and pension after I became a widower a few years ago. I also needed advice on my final salary pension and whether to transfer out of the scheme.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were heading towards retirement and, although we had been saving and planning as best we could for many years, we felt we really needed a more expert eye to review our situation to ensure things were being done in the most a tax efficient way and to help us get things in place so we could be as prepared and confident about our "next stage" as possible.

Mark took lots of time to find out about us and what we were looking for and really gave us great advice regarding moving some of our existing investments into other products which better suited our changing needs as we prepared to step down from a business we had set up and run for almost 30 years. Mark is extremely friendly and approachable, he takes time to explain things clearly and carefully, and is a real pleasure to deal with. He has gone over and above on several occasions, particularly in the months leading up to our retirement.

Yes. We are so pleased to have met Mark. It isn't easy to find someone you can have real confidence in or someone who really takes time to understands your situation but in Mark we absolutely have that. The pension/investment strategies he has recommended have met our needs and his advice and support have been a huge help to us at a time of life which can naturally be quite stressful.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

A change of circumstances at work (aged 50), resulting in me being in the rather unusual situation of simultaneously having salary income, pension income and the crystallisation of capital sums. Clearly this situation required broader financial advice and planning than that which would typically be provided by the (then commonplace) local high street bank branch, pushing its own range of products (ISAs etc).

How has Mark Bird helped you?

By starting at the beginning and understanding my circumstances, existing assets and investments, objectives and priorities, and attitude to risk. A detailed set of recommendations to create a broad tax efficient investment portfolio, was the outcome of our initial interactions. These recommendations covered ongoing regular investment, investment of capital sums and reassignment of certain existing investments for a more favourable return.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Indeed I have. The predations of HMRC have been minimised, and all available allowances in this respect considered on a regular basis, and utilised. Investments have also performed well, and that was not just attributable to generally favourable investment circumstances in the period 2010-2020.

What could they have done better?

Hindsight is a very insightful creature, and I don't tend to ponder upon what might have happened had I not pursued one particular course in favour of sticking with, or taking, another. So, I'm not sure what if anything Mark could have done better. I certainly couldn't have wished for better process in the execution of the steps I did take, at the outset and subsequently. All very efficient.

After the review, it became very apparent that although I was looking for low risk investment, it would potentially be more beneficial to me and my family for me to transfer my pension. This spread my financial investments to help reduce risk. I later found that I was being made redundant, and again, Mark helped me to invest some of the capital in a tax efficient manner. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Whilst considering early retirement and having a final salary pension running, with medical conditions, I wanted to know what my options where.

How has Mark Bird helped you?

Mark was recommended to me. I met up with Mark to discuss my circumstances, Mark then presented me with options, along with some recommendations, he explained things in an easy to understand format, demonstrating an understanding of both my concerns and circumstances. he then presented me with a policy that looked to fulfil my criteria.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The policy Mark recommended to me has fully met my expectations, giving me the peace of mind I was looking for, for me personally I have the comfort of a regular income and for my family a level of protection I was hoping to pass on. Mark has an exceptional ability to make people feel at ease, having been in management for 26 years + it is a pleasure to deal with such an professional person.

What could they have done better?

Nothing, Mark listened to my concerns, demonstrated an understanding and has followed up on me on a regular basis, he is a shining example of what an adviser should be.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was in need of advice in planning my pension options, having been a nomad in terms of work I had several pension pots that needed either sitting on or consolidating.

Mark helped me set up a draw down pot where several of my smaller pensions could be placed to provide an improved return/pension option

We first had a financial adviser linked to our Insurance company and when he retired we were introduced to Mark. We had reached the stage where our mortgage was paid off and our sons financially independent and we wanted savings and investment advice.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I operate several companies that are owned by myself and my wife and around 6 years ago we had reached the conclusion that whilst my businesses were pursuing planned strategies and being well-catered for whilst doing so by of having access to expert advice when required, my personal financial affairs were not receiving the same continual levels of structured attention....which is ridiculous when you think about it - the cobbler's kids run barefoot etc etc. At the time we undertook to correct this situation as a priority and requested introductions to their financial advisors from several close personal and professional acquaintances, had meetings with what I considered to be the "top 3" of them and based on those meetings we decided to proceed with Mark Bird/CFWM.

Mark's brief was/is to treat our finances and financial aspirations with the same level of considered thoughtful planning as we would like to if we could, and to have the same level of interest in proactively managing our finances as I do. And I have to say Mark has done exactly that! Since starting our relationship Mark has been instrumental in planning and delivering successful strategies to encompass investments, tax planning, company profits extraction, retirement and IHT planning.

I have had a financial advisor for many years and when a previous one moved on I found Mark. At the time I needed financial advice around retirement so particularly wanted help with this aspect of my finances.

How has Mark Bird helped you?

Mark listened to what I wanted to achieve from my pension and weighed up my options for retirement. He then went off and constructed a plan for me which he thoroughly and clearly explained before I agreed to his advice. Mark continues to review this plan yearly if not before and will suggest adjustments if necessary. With Mark I have always felt that I am investing to suit my needs and feel that Mark will always find the best product for me.

We have continued to ask for Mark for financial support as we progress through our careers and look at pension, saving advice/guidance. Mark is always patient with us and takes considered time to explain all the best options based on our personal circumstances. As we are quite limited in our understanding of savings/investment opportunities, without Mark we would have struggled to make the best of our savings. Mark is gently focusing us on closing down important decisions e.g. wills, investing, where he can see we need the most help - and we do :-). Mark is confidently conversant with all aspects of savings and I really dont think our retirement funds would be as healthy without Mark's advice. Our changing circumstances means that Mark has plenty of opportunity to help and guide us. We are pleased with returns on investments and are currently considering inheritance planning options.
