We are coming to retirement and was looking to see if I could put a plan in place to retire early

Paul has taken the time , giving different options, to plan out our next 25 years. I contacted Paul to discuss my final move in the allocation of Pension Funds. My previous experience with Financial advisors was not to good as the advice for the commission paid was disproportionate. Approaching retirement, I became disappointed the attention I was receiving from with my pensions advisor.

How has Paul Taylor helped you?

Paul had kept in touch with me for many years and I had always 'planned' to speak with him once I retired. His manner and knowledge of my options and an immediate understanding of my needs was like a breath of fresh air and I was more than happy to transfer my pension over to True Potential. In addition, I had some 'historic' small pensions which he was more than happy to deal with and organise release of the tax free sums. Paul is always available to help with issues small or large and his experience and advice is second to none.

Having several pensions and changes in pension advisors caused me to look for advice around 5 years prior to my proposed retirement date.

How has Paul Taylor helped you?

Paul took a long term view, was very thorough looking at the overall picture and explained things in simple terms. He has allowed myself and my wife to plan for what we hope will be an excellent lifestyle in retirement. The softwear used provides excellent output and cashflow analysis. I had already seen 5 advisers before I met Paul. The had all proposed canned solutions without asking much about me. I wanted to invest at least part of the money in property but they all said it was not the most efficient thing to do. However, their fees to manage my money would have been exorbitant. Paul was totally different. He started by asking about my history, my lifestyle, experiences and wishes for the future. He was the first person to listen and I very soon realised why the others had been so adamant against property. It would mean no fees for them. Paul showed me the way to do it and make a profit even if that meant I wasn´t going to be paying him to manage my money in future. He dedicated me a long time to not only listen but also explain and device a plan.

I had a number of investments scattered across different providers with different spreads of risk. I wanted someone with the correct knowledge and experience to consolidate my SIPPs and my ISAs and match these to an appropriate risk profile.

How has Paul Taylor helped you?

Paul took time to understand me, my companies, my family and my aims moving forward. This takes time and is far from just filling in forms and completing questionnaires and Paul's personal approach was ideal. Based on his appreciation of my circumstances and aims we met and chatted a number of times to agree the best way forward. Once a plan was agreed between Paul completed the elements he is responsible for and I was tasked to complete some things myself. Thorough-out the process Paul was available to answer questions and facilitate things as best he could which was appreciated.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, my investments are far easier to manage and the new holdings and plans save me over three thousand pounds a year in advisor and management fees. Further, the investments chosen are able to be left for the long term with just periodic monitoring and this in itself is a huge benefit (passive investments rather than active). The saving is considerable as is the time saved in the future and I regret not speaking with Paul sooner.

What could they have done better?

Nothing. The service was superb and I have recommended Paul to a number of colleagues and business partners. Recommendations do not come from me lightly incase the individuals I recommend give poor advice, fails to show or fall short of the expectations of my peers. With Paul I had no hesitation in recommending him. People often think they can manage their own investments due to the ease of such platforms as Hargreaves Lansdown and the information freely available on the internet. However, we all have different circumstances and goals, no matter how subtle, and you really cannot replace the advice given by an experienced and enthusiastic advisor who understands your position. I thought I knew better but now I am saving money using Paul and should the make the same returns or better (I am three thousand a year up already).

We already had a number of financial avisers that have acted on behlf of me personally and my family and company, however we have felt let down by the advice they offered. thankfully i listened to Paul and what his thoughts and plans were, and thankfully i instructed him to act on my behalf.

Without being pushy he showed me where my existing advisors were going wrong. since he has started acting for me, he has managed to clarify my whole financial position, simplified it and has managed to increase my investment portfolio. We wanted to plan for our future and map out what lur funances might look like so we could work out when would be best to retire/semi retire. I felt there might be a possiblity of being made redundant so also needed to consider self employment as a option.

Very quickly and efficiently assessed our position and clarified what needed to be done before the start of the new tax year in order to protect the higher LTA limit. Also, reviewed current Life Insuarance policies.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes for the LTA advice and also for the retirement savings plan along with a review of current Will's. We also agreed (following Paul's investigations/reviews of our Life Insurance) to start new policies for Life, Critical Illness and Income protection, all of which resulted in more significantly more cover for only a few pounds more per month.

What could they have done better?

Overall great professional service but the savings/expenditure report could be improved by being simplified with a clearer action plan of what to do next.

In my case Paul has really tidied up all of my finances so everything is much easier to understand and find. I would say that Paul scores really highly in that he is very knowledgeable as a financial Adviser. Tries hard to build both stability and growth in my portfolio in all areas including my SIPP and Offshore Funds. In the early years this was more difficult as his hands were tied as he could only make investments for me which were approved by my wife's firm's Compliance Department which were not necessarily his first choice. Paul has helped me move my pension to hopefully create better long term value with lower fees, he has arranged very competitive life insurance cover, and provided advise on various tax planning issues, to enable me to reduce taxes should I not be around much longer (you just never know) Paul makes understanding each item easy through various diagrams & back to basics explanations.

First of all Paul is an excellent communicator in that he knows his job extremely well and is very knowledgeable in his field. Sometimes when he explains something he doesn't just explain it verbally he also if appropriate will sketch little diagrams and plans to enforce his point or message. I also like the fact that when I do have a meeting with him there is always a lot of structure to our meetings.
