What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

The situation is complex. I was representing my brother who had made investments during his working life (advised by our father) but David is profoundly deaf, has difficulty in communicating including both reading and writing. David asked me to help him (after our father died) so he could assess the value of his investments and how he might use them in his retirement.

How has Graham Hicks helped you?

Graham was brilliant for both of us. Explaining clearly and precisely on how each investment might work and how we might treat each one. He was clear - communicated with both of us (which David liked - even if he didn’t always understand what Graham was saying) and this enabled David and I to explore the options before further advising Graham. Graham was both patient with us and answered all our questions (however simple they might have been)

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

David and I followed Graham’s advice with a slight slant on David’s current requirements and Graham then fully delivered our requirements. Both David and I were fully satisfied with the outcomes Graham achieved for us. He was helpful.

What could they have done better?

We dont think so. Graham has also helped us to follow up our plan at a later stage (two years later) picking up the case ans running it smoothly.

After having several meetings with Graham he came back and outlined and explained the best options that I had with regards investing a lump sum and transferring my company pension to get the best possible return. We've been working with Graham for a number of years but more recently my husband and I wanted to make some significant changes in our financial plans following his retirement, including downsizing our property, investing our pension lump sums, and transferring some of our assets to our grown up children in a tax efficient way to help them get on the property ladder.

How has Graham Hicks helped you?

He helped us with assessing our attitude to risk, setting up ISAs as well as a General Investment Account with a diversified portfolio in line with our risk profiles. He also liaised with Solidus to set up a Beneficial Trust for our children, advised on my son's mortgage lender's requirements in terms of our proposed gift, as well as advising on how best to manage the funds from our house sale during the gap between completion and purchase of a new property.

I originally wanted to consolidate various pensions under one roof and Graham spent time and care to advise me on this, coming up with a good solution. In fact, it transpired that he advised me that 25% of my pension would be better left where it was, which perhaps shows Graham's integrity as he no doubt would have made more money in fees by amalgamating 100% of my pension : )

He took time to listen to my thoughts on risk and clearly illustrated the benefits of the pension fund chosen at the time. Over the last few years I have had fairly regular reviews and he has advised me on not only my core pension but also ISA investments.

I needed to make a drawdown as I retired early and needed advise on what amount to take out so I would keep within my Personal tax allowance. He was able to advise what tax I would have deducted from the drawdown so I can claim it back from HMRC at end of tax year. He arranged the drawdown quickly and efficiently.

Definitely. I am able to draw to draw on my Pension since it was transferred and the capital it released help me to pay off my outstanding mortgage and provide funds to purchase a property outright. The Savings plan is in place and is constantly reviewed and accessible.

Graham has been my financial advisor since my then impending retirement in 2009. From the outset he has provided a friendly, courteous service and excellent financial advice that is clearly and carefully tailored to my circumstances. He provides regular updates on my investments and we meet annually to review them, taking account of any changes to my financial circumstances, attitude to risk, ethical investment preferences and contingency planning. He always takes the time to explain the choices available and their relative benefits, and his investment recommendations (and their performance to date) gives me confidence that I have robust plans in place for the future.
