When we were looking to buy our first house approximately 5 years ago, we needed an IFA to help us get a mortgage. We found Ciaran through a comparison site and he offered us good advice (for free) on self-build mortgages. He later helped us secure a great rate on our first mortgage and since then have used his services for 2 new mortgages and he is always excellent. He is always completely transparent and if he can't get a better deal than your current provider, he will simply say - no hard sell or trying to get you to move in order to earn his commission. Very honest!

Purchase of a new house requiring a first time buyers mortgage with a wife who had limited credit history in the UK due to changing jobs.

How has Ciaran Scullion helped you?

Ciaran was exceptional from the outset, given our busy professional lives he was accommodating in every way and really made us feel like he was taking the brunt of the workload off us which was exactly what we needed. He was honest and transparent in all his advice and always willing to consider other options that we felt were worth consideration. Without Ciaran we are certain we would not be living in the house we currently are as he acted swiftly to secure our mortgage at a time when the vendor of the house was looking for quick buyer due to the requirement for her to obtain the payment in order to secure a house in Scotland which has different house bidding rules. The house purchase process was further complicated as it happened over the easter holidays in 2015, however Ciaran was available throughout the entire period which we very grateful for, as was the vendor and her estate agent (we found out about this after we moved in) as it sped the process up markedly which allowed her to move from London to Edinburgh to be with her son who was terminally ill. We now consider Ciaran as our go to IFA for all things related to our household and trust him and his advice wholeheartedly.

As stated above we obtained our mortgage in an environment of tight credit lending for first time buyers, with a vendor who wanted a quick turnaround in the sales process due to the idiosyncrasies of the Scottish estate bidding process.

What could they have done better?

Nothing - we wouldn't have changed anything that cairn has done for us, testament to this is us now recommending ciaran to all our friends who are in the market for an IFA. The very fact that I have taken the time to fill in this form is testament to him.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

In the first instance we were looking for a self-build mortgage and came across Ciaran's company via a comparison site. He was knowledgeable and very helpful despite us being in the early stages of the process.
