A very good first meeting - Ian was clear about the services that he could provide and the charges for the service. He took time to understand my requirements and is clearly knowledgable in his field. Our future meetings will allow me to better understand the depth of his investment knowledge and advice.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had a pension from a previous employer as well as a small private pension that I had started prior to that employment. My circumstances changed and now being self employed I felt I needed to review the investments already made and decide what further pension contributions I should make.

How has Ian Gourley helped you?

Ian considered my current circumstances and discussed several possible future scenarios allowing me to have plenty of time to think about which investment was best for me. Everything was explained in a way I could understand, he was approachable, patient and I did not feel rushed or pressurised to make a decision.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I now feel confident that my new pension arrangements are more in tune with my attitude to risk and that, despite potential market fluctuations, I have more control over what happens to my investment for the future.

What could they have done better?

I can't really think of a way that Ian could have done better. From meetings with Financial Advisers in the past I feel it is important to have trust and confidence in the Adviser. This I found to be the case from my meetings with Ian.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Not happy with Halifax level of advice, became increasingly difficult to see financial advisors. Each time the advisor changed, no continuity. Another advisor passed me onto another firm without first letting me know, no annual reviews unless I contacted him, very unprofessional.

How has Ian Gourley helped you?

Ian was able to explain all my different accounts to me & where & how money was invested. He made suggestions how these different accounts could be lnvested & become more efficient.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

In this present volatile market, I have lost a small percentage ov investment, but hopefully as the markets improve, so will my investments.

What could they have done better?

Don't think Ian could have done anything better, only someone with a crystal ball, could predict the performance of markets throughout the world at the moment.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I needed advice across the board for all aspects of my life as a working, divorced mother who had to decide about pensions, mortgages, managing investments and income.

How has Ian Gourley helped you?

Over the last fourteen years, Ian has offered sound, well-thought through advice which stabilised my monetary situation and ensured that I was meeting my immediate financial needs as well as planning for the future. His advice has been invaluable.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I am now working freelance and taking a PhD. My freelance work supplements my income from a couple of pensions and rent from my house, and I am able to pursue the luxury of returning to study. I am now working on the next stage of inheritance planning with Ian, and look forward to his suggestions and analyses on the best way of going about it.

What could they have done better?

Very little! It would have been good if he had introduced the comprehensive planning service he now offers earlier as it is extremely effective

Ian personifies the things you want in an advisor dealing with your personal finance: he's knowledgable, clear, straightforward and proactive. In short I trust Ian because over the years he's consistently provided sound advice evidenced by performance. Ian is extremely careful, diligent and considerate in executing every aspect of his work. He often improves his knowledge base by gaining additional qualifications. He is fully prepared when we meet and is very approachable and balanced in his thinking. He is both sympathetic and understanding of my point of view, but guides me, if need be, to the most appropriate financial position. He is endlessly patient and willing, in every way, to help me maintain an adequate structure for my financial future. He does everything to the best of his ability, with a warm sense of humour.

What could they have done better?

I really can't think of anything to suggest for him to 'do better'. On one or two occasions when things seemed a bit confused, he had already realised what had gone wrong and had already taken steps to correct it. You can't do better than that.

Ian was prompt at responding to my initial request to meet and was happy to meet at my chosen venue (my home). He was very friendly, polite and willing to answer any question I had about his skills, knowledge and experience and about the particular service he offered. He took time to get to know me and understand my current financial position, lifestyle and future aspirations. He very clearly explained all aspects of his service and costs involved. I found his explanation of the computerised cash flow analysis process very clear and his advice on the pros and cons of different decisions I could make was particularly helpful as I had previously been very worried about making a 'wrong' decision. I would definitely recommend Ian to friends, family and colleagues seeking independent financial advice.
