Over the past couple of years I have asked Rob for retirement advice. I found myself in a position where I was being made redundant at the age of 64 and so was thinking I would full time retire rather than look for another job to fill the gap between then and drawing state pension. I was looking for a way to maintain a good standard of living between then and drawing my state pension without making too big a hole in my savings. As always I found Robs advice both very useful and practical in coming up with a plan to bridge the gap without making too big a hole in my savings.

I had multiple pensions that i wanted to combine into a manageable fund. i wanted to know what i need to save to have sufficient provision for retirement. I needed a lot of help to understand how i could make my savings tax efficient. I needed help with Self Assessment.

Following the death of my husband I needed help with planning my future pension and retirement.

Rob took details of all my pension plans and my husbands plan plus insurance pay outs for his early death. He looked at my tax situation as I was not currently working and has set up unit trust plan and isa for the insurance monies. He also transferred my husbands pension into a retirement plan allowing me to start receiving a monthly payment and draw down for any future expenses.

Retirement at the age of 73 and my wife at the age of 70 on 31.03.2020. My wife with two small pensions and the state pension. Myself with two lump sum pensions with previous employer, the state pension which I had deferred until retirement and a Civil service pension.

How has Rob Case helped you?

For tax year April 2020/April 2021 after taking a small sum of tax free cash kept my income for that year below the tax threshold, starting my enhanced state pension at a date to remain below the tax threshold but taking a lump sum at the same time which I was advised would be free of tax. Civil Service pension not taken until this tax year. Lumpsum pensions and Isa's transferred to St. James' Place.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Retirement was the primary reason for seeking financial advice, plus we have had a number of recommendations to approah SJP. Rob was local to us which was an additional reason for choosing him to manage and guide us through how best to invest and minimise any tax implications.

Transferring multiple poorly managed pensions into our preferred SJP products. Year one was exceptional for us in terms of growth, meanwhile Rob arranged and advised us on a drawdown pension.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

YES. Year one has been exceptional, but then we transferred our poorly managed pensions into SJP at the bottom of the market (COVID impact).

What could they have done better?

Financially nothing, we are very peased with all of the advice we have received from Rob. Our only minor gripe, may be our own fault and that was getting the draw down money into the Bank before our own funds ran out. It was achieved in the end, but it was a little stressful towards the end.

I needed to sort out my pensions as I had reached the age of 65 when my pensions "matured".

How has Rob Case helped you?

We had several meetings online where we reviewed my financial situation and the various pensions I had. He gave me sound advice and then started on the task of withdrawing my pensions from the pension providers. This took some time as the pension providers were poor at sending the required information, but Rob stuck with it and finally got all the information and sorted out the transfers. We met face to face where he explained the options and these were agreed.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

About 5 years ago I realised that retirement was looming and although I owned my house , asset rich but was working harder than I did in my youthful years to maintain my monthly requirements. So I took the option to find advice to establish my financial position.

Advised to draw down from two pensions and invested the residue for eventual retirement day. Opened an ISA to establish a saving scheme to establish a fund on retirement and generally planed my future passed on then current circumstances.

Very much so , although I was very hesitant to make that first phone call and with the bad press financial advisers have had, has done what it said on the lid, to coin a phrase.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My original financial adviser retired and passed my investments on to a company who showed no interest in discussing my worries. I am an elderly woman and wanted to leave my finances in a state that could be easily accessed by my family in the event of my death and I didn't feel confident to leave my investments in their present form.

How has Rob Case helped you?

Rob explained what your company did and asked how and why I had contacted him. I explained the reasons (as above) and he agreed to meet with my son and I to explain what his company did and how it could help. He is organising my investments so that they are easily accessible and understandable to my family. I was pleased my son sat in at all our meetings as that means that with both of us listening we did understand most of what was said.

Two investments have been made and I'm waiting for Rob to call and see me to discuss the next move.

Last year my husband was very ill & I found myself in total charge off our finances. As my husband always looked after all the family financial side of of our marriage, I hadn’t a clue where to start sorting out pensions, shares etc, so my son in law introduced me to Rob Chase, who is his Financial Advisor. From that day I never had anymore worries as Rob sorted out everything.

He sorted out our shares, bonds, pensions etc. He even sorted out my pension of which I didn’t know that I was intitled to, as I haven’t been in paid employment since I was married 55 years ago. He also got me a nice large cheque as back pay.

First of all Rob rang me 9 days ago asked a load of questions about my finances then said he would get back to me in a couple of days with a report heard nothing since. I think the reason he has not got back to me and probably hasn't even bothered even doing a report, because all he seemed to want was for me to make an appointment to see him, he never mentioned anything about costs, so that is the reason I would not recommend your services, you say a free report haha

Hi Joe I am sorry if you have not received your financial plan, I emailed this to you last week to the email address that was provided to me from your initial enquiry. As I explained on the phone, I was more than happy to send a financial plan, these are free and provide a status of where you are in your financial timeline and highlights the areas that need to be looked at and some of the pitfalls and dangers you could face as you enter retirement without fully understanding the exact nature of your existing plans as these may hold valuable benefits to you, I therefore suggested that it would be very beneficial for you to have a face to face meeting, either with myself or another IFA of your choice to give you the best possible guidance and advice over the coming years. I am sorry that you do not appear to have received the report, I will email this to you again, if you could kindly contact me to clarify your email address so that I can make sure you receive the plan I prepared without any further delay.
