In his monthly emails he regularly updates clients on how his team is progressing in this regard, highlighting achievements. I was being made redundant after 32 years service and wanted advice on pensions investment and estate protection.

I firstly attended a seminar conducted by David which helped me to get first hand experience of David's knowledge,possible advice and his independence from financial companies. I then arranged a meeting with David to discuss my circumstances and then investigate what the possibilities were, if it was reasonable/efficient to keep my company pension invested or transfer it. David was able to show me various outcomes and after I completed a comprehensive yearly outgoings was able to show predictions. David was also able to show me tax efficient ways of doing business. The initial consultation was free and then future fees were openly discussed. As my wife was a non tax paying employee we both were given advice on savings,pensions and investments for both. We had no will made and had not discussed our estate management in event of either or both deaths and how it may affect our 28 year old son and inheritance tax. We also discussed trusts and trustees. David and his team were able to produce a plan and show various products and their performances and then agree, with our various risk acceptance levels taken into consideration,products that suited us.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

When we first visited David Hill in 2013, on a friend's recommendation, my wife and I were considering retiring in June 2014. We had no specialised financial knowledge and realised that we needed expert help to assess our situation and decide whether retirement was a viable option at that time.

How has David Hill helped you?

David spent a considerable amount of time talking us through our financial situation and helping us to make a realistic appraisal of the possibility of retiring when we wanted in June 2014. Following our discussions with him and based on his accurate assessment of our financial position, we realised that we could afford to retire. We have had no regrets since our retirement.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

With the help of the package which David "put together" for us, we have seen our investments give an annual return significantly better than we could otherwise have expected. He also provides excellent coffee whenever we meet for a financial review.

What could they have done better?

I can't think of anything.

How has David Hill helped you?

This is written on behalf of my wife and myself as we both have investments with David. Our daughters also have dealings with David which we are not party to. Keeps in contact with us regularly via monthly updates on the market trends and changes in Government rules/HMRC. Including recommendations for the future. Asks for timely response when wishing to change investment details in our portfolios in order to ensure best returns in the quickest time. We look forward to our visits/discussions with David as I consider that he understands our needs in retirement. We are both paid a civil service pension hence his advice is more to do with our investment portfolio. He also has very good coffee.

David is thorough and rigorous when gathering your financial data. This extends to getting clear information on your attitude to risk and your plans and wishes. He employs financial modelling tools that illustrate how income and spend is likely to pan out into the future. His advice over the last 4 years has been sound and my savings and investments are on track. We get regular updates and are consulted on investment changes. Excellent service overall.

As one of the few chartered financial planners in Northern Ireland David gave very good and constructive advice. When funds are not performing well he is always ahead of the game advising us to move them to a more suitable fundamental/funds and has pointed us in the direction of some very good savings products over the years. As a result we had a very good performance in 2014
