What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I originally invested alone and later used a Financial Advisor who was only interested in what cash I could invest; he also created a lot of churns. He was not interested in anything beyond that. I had some investment properties and wanted to find someone who had a significantly more holistic approach to guiding me, my income, savings and properties over the long term. I found that someone in Karl Lavery.

How has Karl Lavery helped you?

First of all, the key is Karl's understanding fully where I was originally and then helping me to decide priorities both short and long term and finally implementing and tweaking a plan which could achieve the stable financial position I currently enjoy. His focus has always been getting me to where I wanted to be . Such a blessing for any single woman as there is no way I could ever have achieved this on my own.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes indeed - such a difference in approach. Understanding where I was 20+ years ago and where I wanted to be now in retirement made all the difference - we have travelled together along my journey, changing or amending things successfully along the way, to where I am happily today, aged 80 and confident in the future.

Approaching retirement and sought am independent financial review to look at my position with specific review on whether or not to transfer out the value of my DBS scheme.

How has Karl Lavery helped you?

He listened and asked probing questions to understand our needs and appetite for risk. He then produced an all encompassing report which he presented to us in easy to understand language.

I am still putting the proposed action points in to effect but so far so good!

Really can’t think of anything - too early to say if the investment suggestions prove to be effective

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Initially we were seeking advice for dealing with an sum of inheritance received within the family. However Karl has been able to combine that with wider long and short term financial planning to enable our family to best use the money received along with adapting our own circumstances and outlook to give us the better financial planning.

How has Karl Lavery helped you?

Karl was about to give us advice on a range of different products and ways of dealing with the estate. He was very clear and thorough with his explanations ensuring that we understood every step, its positives and limitations. As time has gone by Karl has been able to advise on a whole range of matters from Cars, Mortgages to other financial planning.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

All the family have been very impressed with Karl's approach and the way he has dealt with us and our finances. He has always been honest, upfront and clear with all of his undertakings and it has made the whole process smooth and efficient.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

When we got married we had a mixed bag of investments and no independent adviser and we wanted to maximise our investment opportunities.

How has Karl Lavery helped you?

He discussed in detail our aims and goals and explained the options available in a very understandable way. He introduced us to a regular system of reviewing our financial position on a yearly basis looking at this under useful headings such as Current Situation, Objectives, Private Pensions, Cash Flow Forecasts, and Recommended Actions regarding Cash Holdings, Risk Profile, Portfolio Balancing and Investments. The most important thing he did for us is give us a strong feeling of financial security for the near, medium term and the distant future as a couple.

Yes. His recommendations, as you will realize from above, were clear and we were happy with them. We are pleased with all the advice we have had as demonstrated by the fact that our account moved with Karl Lavery when he moved companies.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My husband, who was a Chartered Accountant, and looked after all our financial affairs, died in June 2012. My daughter, who knew Karl, arranged that we speak with him and, as a result of our discussions, I have employed Karl (Manse Capital) to look after all my finances. My husband's company Deloitte, (Alan was a retired partner) have always, and continue to do so for no remuneration, dealt with my tax situation.

As I have no business acumen, I am quite happy for Karl and his aassociates to invest money on my behalf and trust him implicitly to give me the best possible advice.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Certainly. Karl is always at the end of the telephone, or deals with my e-mails, if there is any help I need, even to the extent of advising me on the purchase of a new boiler!.

Karl and the Manse Capital approach is to start with you as an individual (or couple) and find out what is important to you in life in terms of goals, people, etc. The next step is to explain the benefits of passive vs. active fund management - I won't go into details myself but this is something that was important to me. Next step is a review of your finances, expenditure, etc and try to match that to your goals and objectives. This was a very good and thorough process and gave me confidence in the approach and investments Karl recommended.

How has Karl Lavery helped you?

Karl is a very personable advisor he has been my planner now for many years and I count my good fortune to have met him. He is very capable an knowledgeable on all aspects of finanace and makes it easy for beginners to understand and to get the best out of their lives. He is not only sharp at financial affairs but he takes an all round interest in the family and all avenues for the future . His main skills are that he is a very honest caring person with indepth skills of managment and knowledge of the markets that makes him ideal fo rthis job. I cant say enough good things about him other than everyone should have a karl he is amazing.

I cant think of anything to critic him as he listens and helps with any problem ive ever thrown at him.. so no suggestions needed .

The advisor took the time to understand my situation. This was particualry important at the time I first engaed with him as it was a difficult personal time for me. He advised and directed me but allowed me to make own decisions. I really felt he had my best interests at the centre of his approach. I am by no means wealthly but since dealing with Kark Lavery I know my pension, savings and income are working hard for me.

What could they have done better?

Just some practical things, it can be nightmare travelling to the office and 'opening times' feel a bit limited to 9 - 5 Monday to Friday.

Karl is down to earth and approachable. He listens to what the client needs but is not afraid to tell it how it is to prevent someone making a costly mistake. His advice makes it very clear, often in easy to understand picture form, what clients can realistically expect their money to achieve for them and how adjustments to the plan can enhance the outcome. He is as good at explaining concepts to clients who are first time investors as he is in talking about technical concepts with professionals.

How has Karl Lavery helped you?

Karl spent considerable time with me finding out my financial situation at the time of our first meeting, my concerns and my aspirations. He investigated time in following this us and then in face to face meetings with me, explaining everything thoroughly. If there was anything I didn't understand he went through the information again making sure I was completely clear about everything. What I like most about my advisor is his holistic approach to financial planning and that he is always looking out for me, even when we are not actively in contact for one of the bi-annual reviews. When I first met Karl my finances were, to be honest, in a bit of a mess, I had financial products that I didn't need, an endowment that wasn't going to pay out and a pension that wasn't going to give me the income I needed in retirement. With Karl's support I am now, five years later, fully in control of my finances and know that when I eventually retire I will be able to do so with complete peace of mind.

It is very hard to think of anything to suggest because I honestly believe my advisor and the company he works with to be supportive, open, honest and extremely knowledgeable.
