What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We needed a mortgage adviser and discovered Ashley via his good ratings from other clients on a customer review website.

Ashley is an excellent adviser. His advice is considered, methodical and thorough. It is delivered in a way which is clear, concise and organised. He was fastidious in his approach to ensuring I got the best deal I could. He is also prompt and accessible in terms of communications. Please be advised that I reside in Australia and all the work was done via the internet with only one, or two, telephone conversations. Ashley firstly ascertained the monies involved and my requirements. This took quite a while, what with all the data required, but he was determined to make sure he had all the information needed before selecting the best plan and company to look after my pension scheme. We ended up with two plans. Ashley thoroughly explained the differences and, after assuring I understood both plans, advised me which one would suite my requirements based on the information I had given. Ashley was very thorough and always ensured I fully understood everything. I gladly took his advise.

Initially Ashley came round to our house several times to go through our current policies and advise on what we should keep and what we should change. He continues to monitor our investments and will arrange regular meetings to go through performance with us should we require it. Even if we choose not to have face to face contact we are well informed about our investments on a regular basis. Ashley listened very carefully to my individual needs and preferred expectations. He gave me a lot of his time, carefully explaining products and services at a suitable pace while offering a simplified description of any profession related terminology. I found it very comforting that he was always available and took the time to answer some of my more trivial questions When looking for a mortgage he made me aware of the best options on offer in relation to my personal circumstances and then and then highlight some of the potential benefits and less favourable points of a shortlisted few.

I found Ashley's advice to be honest and realistic, as a result I am very happy with his impartial recommendations as they have more than adequately met my personal needs and expectations. His in-depth knowledge and vast experience far out way anything I would of been able to have got on my own.

What could they have done better?

I have never been less than 100% satisfied with the service Ashley provides, but as Ashley is very honest and takes a great deal of pride in what he does, no doubt there are areas he has highlighted for further development. If being over meticulous is a crime then I guess Ashley is guilty.

Ashley did a fantastic job of breaking down what we could expect to achieve in terms of budget and how much we could borrow. This allowed us to look for houses in that range with confidence. As I was studying a PhD at the time it could have been difficult to arrange a mortgage due to the unusual income, however Ashley was fantastic in arranging the mortgage rates with the lenders and got us a great deal with a low and stable interest rate. He provided excellent communication throughout, keeping us informed during every step. We are very grateful for all of Ashley's help during this stressful time! He also helped us locate a solicitor who did a great job too.

The difference with Ashley is that he listens. He listens first to what you need, then the advice follows. In my case, he found me the solutions based upon my circumstances without any hard sell.
