What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had many pensions, I also had a significant sum left over from downsizing. I wish to retire in 5 years and was looking for some sound advise.

How has Robert Connell helped you?

Rob consolidated all of my pensions into one as well as helping me to make a substantial lump sum contribution into my pension. The remainder of my cash was either invested using the ISA allowances of both myself and my wife. Rob has also helped my apply for tax rebates based on pension contributions.

Robert helped me though the "murky waters" of the pension system. I felt at ease with him. I'm still a bit muddled about the charges. Even though he did mention a figure in our initial phone call he did not clarify the charges at our initial meeting. However, he did a good job at explaining everything else.

I have been looking for Rob all of my working and pension investing life. If only i'd known of him 30 years ago. I was looking to consolidate numerous employer pensions into one and to make sure that they performed as well as they could without feeling I was getting ripped of by enormous fees. And he has come up trumps. A straightforward, helpful, down the line, get-it-done and knowledgeable person whose advice i trust. He has no preference in what he advises. He just gives it and gets on with it.

As a busy individual who has never had time, nor inclination to investigate pensions myself, I feel Rob knew precisely what i needed and what was necessary. Rob has a straightforward and matter of fact manner about him and he speaks in simple language i can understand. I received advice of the best entitlement to Benefits, with Income available from different sources, and what I most want in regards to Tax Free Cash and income. An Excel spreadsheet format table was provided showing the best Annuity that is available on the open market by reviewing different Firms who can offer the highest rate of Income. My Adviser went through all my separate Pensions being held with different Companies and showed me the gain and loss that can occur by chosing the best rate available on the open market. My adviser showed a high measure of interest in helping me to chosing the best Annuity available for me.

Rob has good contacts throughout the Pensions territory and provided better service than some of the leading Pensions Annuity Providers.Also he looks at the other options available other than annuities which are very depressed at the moment (2012). Rob guides you through the risk areas and analyses your individual risk pros and cons. The financial markets are very volatile at present and Rob keeps up with current new ways of investment to suit your needs.

In hindsight ,Rob could have been more forceful and perhaps have made me take the Investment draw down option rather than the annuity. But my situation was complex and I was risk averse at that time.

I know I have not been the easiest customer, I kept thinking of different questions and expecting very quick answers, I also knew that my largest pension pot holder would not prove easy to deal with. Rob was very patient with me , worked very hard dealing with my pension pot holders and continually pushing to finally get me an annuity rate much better than I had hoped for. At the final transfer from the main pot holder to the annuity provider there was a two day delay which resulted in a loss due to falling equity prices. Rob then again worked really hard to get me fully compensated for this loss. I am really impressed and very grateful for his work.

Rob quickly took on board my financial situation and gave me a clear and thorough explanation of the options available to me. In what turned out to be a long drawn out negotiation with my department's Pension Manager, he showed remarkable persistence (where on my own I would probably have given up in despair) and achieved a very favourable outcome in the end. His input was very good value for money.

How has Robert Connell helped you?

Rob has good contacts throughout the Pensions territory and provided better service than some of the leading Pensions Annuity Providers.Also he looks at the other options available other than annuities which are very depressed at the moment (2012). Rob guides you through the risk areas and analyses your individual risk pros and cons. The financial markets are very volatile at present and Rob keeps up with current new ways of investment to suit your needs.

What could they have done better?

In hindsight ,Rob could have been more forceful and perhaps have made me take the Investment drawdown option rather than the annuity. But my situation was complex and my I was risk averse at that time.

Very approachable and knowledgeable on products available. Listened to exactly what i wanted and tailored planning specifically to what i had asked for. Importantly also read between the lines on a number of issues and offered alternatives to what i thought i had wanted which actually more closely matched what i actually need.
