We only had an initial phone call from Jason, to see if there was a fit for his services. It soon became clear there wasn't, however he was extremely helpful in talking through our choices.

I have been throughly impressed with the service Jason has provided. The financial information is clear and they take time to explain it fully. I've even recommended them to friends who have also been impressed.

What could they have done better?

Perhaps catch up on a quarterly basis rather than every 6 months to discuss the progress of our investments.

How has Jason Witcombe helped you?

Jason is very good at using non-technical language for people like me to understand the implications of different options. I also liked the initial questionnaire he asked us to complete, which looked at our wider life choices and ambitions, not just our financial aspirations, and the assessment of our attitudes to risk as regards investments. These helped crystallise our feelings and (financial and other) decisions thereafter, e.g. setting a charitable giving budget every year. I blame / thank Jason for encouraging us to get round to taking a sabbatical, which we might have indefinitely deferred had he not asked us every six months how plans were coming along!

What could they have done better?

I've marked them down to Very Good on Value for Money, rather than Excellent, because it hurts slightly that the annual fees are not much different than my annual salary as a charity director (pretty low). I accept that my husband's income is much higher, and as the fee is calculated as a percentage of investments, it's not so much in the great scheme of things.

Investment philosophy is simple, consistent, and well explained. Tax planning is timely, and they try to minimise paperwork. Language is clear and straightforward. Very responsive to random email queries and concerns.

What could they have done better?

Sometimes I feel they are slightly thinking on their feet, where a little worked example or other prop might have cut to the chase. But this could be simply because of the type of questions we throw at them.

He is not pushy but is quick to respond to queries. His advice has enabled me to save a good deal of money through tax planning and to feel much more confident about my financial future. The monthly fee basis of payment in his firm is simple and clear. His colleagues are equally pleasant and helpful.

How has Jason Witcombe helped you?

Jason is the first advisor I have met in his industry to truly put himself on the same side of the table as his client. I was introduced to his firm by a chapter on index investing written by James Norton, one of his fellow directors, in a book written by an FT journalist and I liked their approach to investing in equity and bond markets and their overall philosophy. From the beginning, Jason has given first class advice which has been tailored to our taste for risk and with no pretence that we would receive returns other than the market would provide and with costs a fraction of what I had been paying a prominent City firm for their questionable stock picking ability. Evolve's investment philosophy is based on well-researched and sound principles and, importantly, with an eye to keeping costs to a sensible level. Jason has been advising my wife and I on our SIPP & ISA investments for some two years now and his client care and good counsel has been much appreciated by us. He makes us think as to what we want our investments for and how they should work for us in any life plan we construct, a very useful and, in my experience, unusual talent.

What could they have done better?

Double the investment returns for the same amount of risk!!

When I first approached Jason my finances were challenging to keep track of and had no overall logic behind them. Jason has ensured that we follow a holistic approach and I now feel comfortable I know where all my investments are, the value of my pensions and how property features in my portfolio.
