I have worked with Jane for several years, originally when she was at Roberts Partnership; continued the relationship after the company takeover by Brown Shipley; and now that she's set up Sylvan. As a business owner, I needed advice with pension contributions and how to maximise what savings I could build up over the years.

How has Jane Patrick helped you?

Jane's been at my side during big transitions in my working and personal life. Growing family & funding education; building pension tax efficiently; best investment returns; on hand support for tax year end; inheritance tax advice; pushing me to sort out wills; and maximising earnings from business sale; I have just taken early retirement and so the long term relationship has given me huge confidence in this next chapter. One of the most important aspects of Jane's style is total clarity, absolute patience when explaining what to her is simple, but to me is constantly confusing, and gentle tenacity in encouraging decision making (rather than my usual procrastination). She explains the pro's/con's and is never pushy. She listens and you always feel her recommendations are always in your best interests and never anything else.

I am obviously in a very lucky position to be able to take early retirement - which takes some considerable adjustment after 40 years non stop, full on in a high pressure working environment. I wanted a personal relationship with an expert, who can understand me, my priorities, my nervousness - and Jane has been there all the way - and will continue to be.

Nothing. Even though explanations sometimes never stick in my head from one year to another, Jane continues to explain patiently the strategy and results achieved. And when I need pushing for my own sake, she gives clear and transparent advice on why inaction is not a good way to deliver results.

How has Jane Patrick helped you?

I haven't compared my adviser's charges to those of others and I don't know exactly what my adviser earns from me because my trust in and pleasure working with my adviser outweigh the associated costs, however, I do know the costs will be competitive because the Partnership would not have earned the reputation it has if clients felt they were being unduly charged. Jane is approachable, friendly, very efficient and extremely professional. Financial information provided is always clearly explained and summarised. I feel at ease to question anything I don't fully understand and Jane manages such queries with extreme patience.

What could they have done better?

I honestly don't have anything to add here, I am a very happy client. My previous adviser made me feel intimidated and guilty.
