What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was made redundant and near to retirement age and I needed advice on how to best use my money purchase pension pot and savings. I hold a POA for my mother and needed advice about investing the funds from her house sale and paying for her care home fees.

How has David Shirley helped you?

David helped me to use my money purchase retirement pot wisely and invested my funds into a SIPP where I draw down a monthly income. David also advised me on how to make best use of of my tax allowance and savings. David has arranged and invested the income from my mothers house sale to maximise and guarantee a regular income to cover her care home fees.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes absolutely. I am happy with the advice I have been given and the income I receive. David always replies to messages and aims to help as much as he can. I feel very supported.

What could they have done better?

I cant think of anything. David was recommended to me and I recommend him now as a trustworthy and reliable CFP

David gave me the information I needed with a forecast for each year how much my pension would give me. Also transferred my 2 pensions into 1 which enabled me to start taking cash out.

We were looking at transferring a defined benefit pension and also at equity release on our property.

David advised us on both these issues. He was clear on the advantages and disadvantages of the options available and was easy to talk to. He helped us make a decision and once made the implementation was smooth and trouble free.

Yes, the equity release deal was actually better than we expected and the pension transfer was as expected.

He responded very quickly to some time critical requirements and was able to determine if the transfers were a sensible option for my circumstances. As they were, he was able to process the transfer requests. This was sorted within a few days of our initial contact. David and his team acted professionally and extremely quickly.

Transfers are still in progress. But this is due to the pension schemes they are being transferred from who are slowing things down. David and his team keep me informed of progress and I'm confident the transfers will be concluded as required

From my experience with David and his team... I don't think they could have done anything different to improve the experience.

David took the time to listen to our concerns for our financial future and then fully investigated / review our existing financial situation he then presented and demonstrated how our finances could work better for us. He always fully explains any suggested recommendations and secondary alternatives including the likely outcomes of doing nothing however he has always left any final decision to us and we can say that we have never felt under any pressure to do anything we were not absolutely comfortable and at ease with. In the 4 / 5 years we have dealt with David we have always received a very professional service.

David use clear and simple language, rather than baffling with technical speak. Having everything explained simply and honestly means you're in a much better position to make an informed decision on the right route forwards. Unlike some IFAs who tend to favour certain products, David details all of potential options, with their pros and cons, helping you to decide on the route which fits comfortably with you.
