I’ve been putting off getting advice as I find it too complicated and scary speaking about what to do to get ready financially for retirement but having turned 55 I was starting to panic and having received an email from “Restless” I decided to make a start whether I liked it or not. Honestly, wished I’d done it sooner. After speaking at great length with Mark I’m now excited about options that are available to me and it’s given me a sense of control which I really thought I had by not doing anything. Mark was so easy going, experienced and passionate about his job and didn’t in anyway make me feel stupid by my nativity with the questions I asked him. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We needed a suitable mortgage for our house move

How has Mark Ridgment helped you?

James handled our case; he assessed our circumstances, identified the best product for us, co-ordinated and submitted the application. He then monitored its progress and due to the lender being understaffed and therefore incredibly slow and inefficient, had to chase repeatedly to ensure it came to fruition within a reasonable time frame. He spent an excessive amount of time on our case for this reason and did so with good humour and endless patience for which we are very grateful. Mark also stepped in when James was on holiday to make sure progress continued to be made.

Yes, thanks to James' persistence with the lender.

What could they have done better?

It was a difficult and frustrating case and was handled extremely well, thank you!

Applying for a mortgage

James Williamson helped us apply for our mortgage, by advising us on the most suitable mortgage offer for us and then applying to it on our behalf. We also recieved advice on a life insurance package that was set up for us hassle free.

After having to wait during lockdown for the mortgage provider to process the application, it made it even better to finally get an offer and to then have a completion date. James made sure he stayed in contact with both myself and the mortgage provider to ensure that our application could be progressed asap given the current circumstances. It made the process of getting our house that bit easier knowing we had a professional helping us with probably the biggest purchase of a lifetime!

I did not have enough time with mark to form an opinion, but the fact he made a point of sending his fees across made me feel that he was more interested in the money than building a relationship

We had no opportunity to meet with Mr Savage so that we could discuss how we can add value, through a long term client relationship. We only were able to explain our services in brief over the phone. Our Regulator the Financial Conduct Authority insist that we are upfront with the costs of our services. We feel therefore, that this is not a fair first impression of us.

I needed to move funds out of my company pension scheme and commence either an annuity or draw down policy

He patiently explained all my options, asked key questions about what I wanted to achieve, both short and long term, then assessed my attitude to risk - something he continues to monitor. He could not have been more thorough - then, once he'd analysed all my answers, he then recommended where best to place my fund. Further, he has offered free advice on mortgage options and personal savings - even taking the time to set up policies for me when there's no commission or financial reward for himself.

Yes - and more. The pension plan has comfortably exceeded expectations to the extent I have been able to increase my monthly draw down.

What could they have done better?

For me, personally, nothing. However, if I was advising him on how to maximise his communication and PR, I would tell him to radically update his website and modernise his newsletters and financial reports.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We needed to sort out our pensions and investments, and needed guidance and Mark was recommended by a good friend.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was forced into the situation due to taking ill health retirement. I tried 3 x IFA's and Mark was the most local and seemed to have competitive rates.

How has Mark Ridgment helped you?

Mark arranged for my 3 x pensions/AVC's to be brought into one with the maximum Tax Free cash payment back. There were several home visits as there was a lot to consider which he did gladly. He also arranged an ISA for my wife.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

It is still early days as I have only been in the scheme since January 2018 but I have already recovered my fees and so far running at 4.7% post tax and ongoing fees.

What could they have done better?

The only problem I had was that odd emails seemed to go missing, but knowing that there was a problem (which was down to their system - now resolved) Mark answered all my calls promptly and efficiently.

I did wrongfully assume this was a free financial service as often brokers dont charge the client but get their comission from the lender. They do charge the client £378 for sorting out your mortgage for you. I can say though the service ive received so far has been great and taken much of the hassle and stress of it away so it feels well worth it. Ive felt this company gets it right between professional and friendly. They seem very knowledgable, are helpful with my concerns and questions and reply via phone or email quickly. Im hoping things will progress with them well.

Mark phoned a few days after instigating the contact through this website, on calling he appeared a bit fraught on the 'phone as he was alone in his office - he didn't think he would be able to help me with my mortgage needs, but offered the services of his mortgage adviser on a no win no fee basis- I had already contacted another company who have no problem finding me a suitable mortgage - so decided to decline the offer.

We were looking for a mortgage but had had a problem with our last one due to the financial downturn.This meant we were not top of the popularity polls with the big or High Street lenders.We needed an advisor to help recommend a suitable lender given our circumstances.Mark and James researched the lenders who would accept our application given our circumstances and provided a solution.As part of a mortgage sufficient insurance coverage is required and advice here was also excellent. A review of our pension situation to afford the mortgage in retirement has provided the lender with evidence of our ability to service the mortgage to their satisfaction and Marks' advice was to maintain the arrangements already in place.Altogether Mark and his team have provided a thorough and professional service with tenacity,humour and understanding.We would highly recommend their services.With thanks Mark and Tania.

Made redundant from the company I worked for and pension would have been frozen talked to Mark about what we could do reinvested pension then when I required some money from it Mark helped sort out this with great advice and swift attention.

I received a redundancy payment and needed investment advice. I also wanted advice on pension planning.

How has Mark Ridgment helped you?

He gave me advice that I understood and he took time to explain things to me. He appreciated my own personal circumstances and gave me advice that was beneficial for me but did not necessarily lead to higher earnings for himself.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I am not sure yet. The investment has not performed quite as well as I hoped but it has not been a full year yet so perhaps it will improve.

What could they have done better?

I can't honestly think of anything. Maybe offer video appointments as standard as this was something I asked for. Mark did conduct a Skype call with me but it was the first time for him. Other clients might find it useful.
