What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

To enable me to plan for a reasonable lifestyle when i retired and also have flexibility on my retirement date.

The outcome at this time is better than i hoped for, although some tough decisions and actions were required to reach this outcome and mark was supportive in offering guidance.

There were some areas were Mark did not appear as confident in providing advice and because of this would steer you away from certain actions or try and refer you to somebody with more specialised knowledge.

After inheriting a significant amount from my father, I decided to use Mark as he was my father's financial adviser. My father always spoke very highly of Mark, as did his business partner Ian.

mark was with friends provident first who i had a policy with, I swopped my pension over to friends thats when i first met mark. when he went on his own we just went with mark cannot praise him enough.

I was 60, my wife had retired to spend time with our grandchildren, I wanted to join in the fun but needed reassurance that we could enjoy our retirement without any financial worries. I reasearched local IFA's and found Marks details on Vouched For by following HMG links.

Mark interviewed my wife and I to gain an understanding of our ambitions (dreams ?) then interrogated our finances and produced a number of viable options for us to consider. We discussed his findings at length and were put at ease by Marks command of the various subjects and his reference to 3rd parties where needed to get specialist input for investments.

Definite yes. My wife and I gained the confidence we needed and I retired from full time employment at 61 setting up my own business to keep me occupied a couple of bays a week - with Marks support.

I have known Mark for over 10 years since selling my business. In that time he has helped set up a comprehensive retirement package of investments and tax planning strategies, taking full advantage of the use of Trusts and the ever changing legislation concerning pensions and Trust rules. My Pension and Investment Portfolio is now set to offer the best advantages to my wife, three children and three grandchildren in the event of my demise. These plans include Life Insurance to cover Inheritance Tax, the writing of an appropriate Will and the lodging of all my vital documents such as Wills and Property Deeds in a secure vault. I receive monthly valuations of my Investment Portfolio from Mark and meet with him quarterly to review these valuations which gives us the opportunity also to review all relevant matters and make changes or updates as appropriate. These meetings are greatly helped by the various computer programs which mark utilises to project values of Income and Expenditure into the future and to estimate both Income and Inheritance Tax Liabilities especially where changes are made to rates of tax. I have every confidence in the advice and information offered to me by Mark.

I have used Mark as my financial advisor for many years now. He supports me with managing and reviewing my pensions , making sure that the company's we use are performing and charging me the lowest rates possible thus giving me the best returns. He also manages my investments and keeps a close eye on the returns I am getting as well as my expenditure (without being invasive). He is like my conscience!! Most importantly is my financial planning for the future for myself and my children, advising me on their investments , my will and the potential tax liabilities both now and on death. He is down to earth and talks in plane English, taking all the tedious detail involved and explaining it clearly. He creates life charts to show you how your investments are doing and how your expenditure will affect your plans for the future. He is always mindful that it is your money and clearly sets out affordability against risk but clearly lives in the real world knowing that people want to enjoy their lives as well. He researches the advice he is giving you well and always comes up with a couple of solutions explaining the pros and cons of each. I personally hate detail and Mark knows that and tailors my reviews accordingly getting to the bottom line quickly and managing my attention span without missing out on the detail that I must hear. When you first meet a financial planner it is very hard to be completely open about your current position and what you aspire your position to be in the future. Mark is so easy to talk to and is in no way judgemental and so you get to the actions far quicker than you can believe. I trust Mark, his judgement and his integrity 100% and would be far worse off without his support.

How has Mark Ferris helped you?

Our annual review meeting with Mark for our personal finances is always a positive experience. Mark gives a thorough overview of changes in finances, whether positive or negative, since the last review which gives a sense of perspective when considering the bigger picture of our finances ie progress towards our long term goals. His knowledge of the pensions and investment market are also useful in explaining changes in the context of UK and global trends so that we know if a down turn is something to be concerned about for us specifically or whether it is a general trend that we just need to wait out. The process of reviewing our monthly incomings and outgoings so that Mark 's team can update his forecasting systems is worth the time it takes us (about an hour each year). As well making us focus on our own finances so that we can see exactly how much we are spending on gas and electricity, food etc, the system that Mark uses to show us the current picture of our finances and the future pictures depending on changes in retirement age etc is great. It gives a real sense of reassurance when we see lots of blue on the graph instead of red! On a final note, Mark and his team (Leah and Carole) are very approachable and friendly. Every time we go into the office or contact them by phone or email we are made to feel welcome. There is never any sense that we are asking for too much (even when I asked for some complicated forecasts on what the impact would be on our current and future finances if I changed jobs). Advice is always given in a jargon free way that is easy to understand and Mark is happy to explain things again if they did not make sense.

What could they have done better?

I am very happy with the service that we receive from Mark and his team and would not consider going to anyone else. I would definitely recommend Entrust to any other potential clients.
