My existing investments were charging for financial advice but as all these companies had done away with their financial advisors, I was not getting any advice.

How has Peter Barton helped you?

Peter helped to reorganise my portfolio from old investments (with higher charges) to better performing and lower cost investments.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

My portfolio has continued to perform well and with Peter's advice and management, individual funds are sometimes changed according to their performance. Peter follows the financial markets and advises according to market trends and performance.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

In 2016 we retired to Norfolk from Derbyshire and wanted someone local to help with our financial matters. We engaged Peter before actually retiring and moving so he would be better placed to advise on retirement planning.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Without a doubt. Some people honestly believe that they can take care of their own finances and to employ an advisor is a waste of money. Peter has blown such thinking out of the water as far as we are concerned. He has regularly been able to advise us of factors relating to, for example, tax and retirement planning that we could not have even thought of ourselves. The fees he has charged over the years have been easily paid for through the added financial value his advice has brought. Peter is not only very clearly accomplished in his field but also has a friendly, patient yet professional approach to clients which means he can explain quite complex financial issues in simple language for which we are ever grateful. We are not speaking lightly when we say that we would not hesitate to recommend Peter. We met two advisors initially but after we’d had the free hour’s consultation with Peter we soon realised there was no contest.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Upon retirement at age 65, I realised with some dismay that simply using my company pension pot to buy an off-the-beg annuity would not provide me with a satisfactory level of income, given the current economic climate. Friends and colleagues all urged me to seek independent financial advice.

How has Peter Barton helped you?

From reading reviews on this site, I realised that Peter had been able to help a lot of people in a similar situation. He began by gathering as much information as he could about my financial circumstances, what sort of income my wife and I might need in the future and our attitude to risk. Then, without pushing me down any particular road (for instance, he did not dismiss out of hand the idea of buying an annuity) he explained in great detail each of the many options. While all of this information is widely available, I would not have been able to find my way through it without Peter to explain all of the implications.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

After a number of face-to-face meetings and many emails and phone conversations, I have now signed up to a flexi-access drawdown arrangement. This should keep my pension pot working for me for as long as it needs to while, as the name implies, allowing flexible access to my funds should the future have any surprises in store for us. Obviously it's impossible to know at this stage how the many and varied investments involved in this process will perform in the years ahead, but I am confident that Peter has been both wise and prudent in his choice of options and that this will prove a far better course than simply buying the rather lack-lustre annuity which was waved in front of me when my company pension matured.

What could they have done better?

I can't think of a single thing Peter could have done better.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were retiring and moving to Norfolk from Derbyshire. We had had various financial advisors up to that point and wished to continue with a new financial advisor in Norfolk.

How has Peter Barton helped you?

We met Peter even before we came to Norfolk and he set up a venue for our first few meetings as we were unfamiliar with the area, which was really helpful. We liked working with Peter from the very first meeting for which he prepared thoroughly, knowing our circumstances. Since then he has provided us with a range of advice which we believe has protected our interests and in many cases saved us money. For example, he has pointed out ways to maximise tax advantages with respect to pensions on the lead up to my retirement and following my retirement. He is always very personable and prepares meticulously to ensure his advice is sound, up to date and in line with a risk profile we are comfortable with. He is able to explain financial matters to me in a way I can grasp without being overly technical, which I certainly find helpful! We are now living in Norfolk and are retired but Peter's ongoing advice is invaluable and we would not hesitate to recommend his services.

Yes. Peter is always careful to present all options clearly and help us to understand the pros and cons with each in terms of, for example, risk and likely returns. The products he has recommended have always been with reputable providers and meet our needs very well. We have made several changes to our pension arrangements based on Peter's advice and are very satisfied with how they have turned out. We know that we could not have made the decisions and found suitable products without Peter's help.

What could they have done better?

I would honestly struggle to find something to highlight here. Peter has always listened carefully to our needs and has responded accordingly by working with us throughout the processes involved. If there had been any issues of this kind, I firmly believe they would have been addressed by the way Peter approaches the client customer relationship i.e. before they became significant problems.

Recently moved to Norfolk and wanted a more local Financial Advisor, and we felt that our current financial arrangements were long overdue for review.

How has Peter Barton helped you?

Peter initially came to see us at our home to introduce himself and chat to us about what we wanted advice on and what our current situation was. Peter very quickly understood what we expected of him and what we were hoping to achieve through investments. He explained very clearly what we could expect from the company via his advice and most importantly instilled a sense of confidence in us that we hadn't felt with our previous advisor.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Indeed we have. There were times during our conversations when it must have been obvious to him that although my husband was following all that was being said I was struggling to grasp some of it. Peter was extremely patient and was more than happy to explain again and again !! .....without making me feel stupid. He was meticulous in explaining the many documents we had to go through until satisfied that we understood what we were signing. It became obvious to us pretty quickly that here was someone prepared to put a lot of work in to achieve the best result possible. We believe he has done that and as a result of his advice we feel much more confident that our money has been invested where it will reach it's full potential.

What could they have done better?

I honestly don't feel that Peter could have done anything better. He has, from the outset made us feel that we were his only customer and I don't feel that I can give any higher praise than that.

Having been made redundant which resulted in early retirement I needed a complete review of my pension arrangements and advice on investing my redundancy payment. I looked at the various free web sites for information but came to the conclusion that I needed an IFA to review my individual circumstances and recommend how best to provide financial security in my retirement.

Peter arranged several meetings with me to review my existing financial and pension arrangements. Peter arrived on as time and quickly establish a good relationship, he explained how he worked and what to expect and what he expected from me. At no point were there any problems that he could not surmount all with speed and efficiency. Despite problems with my pension provider he was able to sort out my pension in 16 weeks -after I had spent 8 months trying .

I don't think you could improve on his efforts as long as you supply tea with a little milk and no sugar he is fine !!

Peter was excellent: he arrived promptly exactly when he said he would, armed with all of the information he said he would bring. After an initial consultation to establish what kind of advice we were looking for, Peter returned within a week with all of the information on a range of options. He answered the questions quickly and succinctly, always taking the time to clarify if there was something that one or both of us didn't understand.
