What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I initially looked for a financial advisor as I had a poor performing pension fund that I wanted to resolve. More recently Thornton and his team have advised my wife and I on a new mortgage too suit not just the property we were looking to purchase, but also one that suited our financial aspirations of a future debt free lifestyle.

How has Thornton Holmes helped you?

Thornton completed a thorough review of my pension provisionning which included all the pension arrangements I had, not just the poor performing one I contacted him about. He made recommendations in respect of each and guided me confidently through the decisions I needed to take to help me achieve my desired goals. The mortgage we were recommended does everything we need, with the flexibility to achieve our aspirations sooner should we choose to.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. The fund I was most concerned about was transferred, and performance improved almost immediatley. We have, and are making significant inroads in becoming mortgage free while having the flexibility to take breaks.

I've always been self employed and had previously used an IFA to help with my pension and life assurance policies. When that IFA retired, I needed to find someone I could trust to help me with the ongoing financial questions and choices I needed to make.

How has Thornton Holmes helped you?

Thornton helped me with my personal pension review, this lead to me transferring my pension. He helped my business with a stakeholder pension scheme, which then became help with auto enrolment. Thornton has also helped with mortgage advice.

Thornton's advise enabled the pension fund to increase with reduced management fees. His support has enabled our business to be compliant with all of auto enrolment regulations. He also gave us the correct advice regarding our mortgage.

I had several pensions which I wanted to get the most from and was looking to have them transferred into one pot. I also required life assurance.

How has Thornton Holmes helped you?

He investigated the best way forward with the pensions. It turned out that leaving them as they were was the best option, he gave best advice although it meant no fee ! He also helped with critical illness cover and life assurance, the product he advised is fantastic and give me peace of mind.

I met Thornton when I was asked to act as a substitute for a friend at BNI (Business Networking International). It was in my mind to start to sort out my pensions and investments but knew I knew nothing about them. I will give myself credit for initiating the conversation but I also recognised that he was approachable, informative and knowledgeable. Thornton's personal style encouraged me to take the matter further and I am so glad that I did.

How has Thornton Holmes helped you?

It either sounds corny or simplistic, but with clear guidance and advice that neither patronised nor flattered me. He also guided me through the first few steps to help him do the preparatory work in pulling together all the information. No mean feat as it turned out that I have 18 different pensions in very diverse pots. He and his team took over pulling all the information together into one place and then provided a very clear picture as to what my options are.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Because I didn't really understand the pension changes, I thought that I would have a very poor pension but, thanks to Thornton and Orchid Financial Services, I am seeing an outcome that I didn't know existed for me. The portfolio I have even takes my attitude to risk in terms of investments into consideration. Quite simply, I am now facing my old age with the ability to live off the pensions I have paid into because they have been, with my full knowledge and consent, invested to provide an income. I have pulled down a portion of my tax free allowance so allow my family to see some of the benefits already - thanks to the work he has done on my behlaf.

What could they have done better?

Because I went to him with so little knowledge, I cannot say there is anything that he could have done better even in hindsight. I did ask about his fees and he gave me a very clear 'ballpark' figure as to what people in his profession charge. So, OK, I might save a little but, quite frankly, to have the comfort and confidence of dealing with someone who was always calling me to give me updates, rather than me having to 'chase' him, it was totally worthwhile and I do not have any regrets in my choice of IFA whatsoever.

I had an excellent meeting with Thornton, he was very professional, but at he same time, friendly, putting me at my ease. Our discussions were thorough, and very informative. He was very clear on fees and charges. His fact finding was detailed, and his explanations of the relevance of the questions made full sense. I would recommend him and Orchid Financial Services without hesitation.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

With a young family and setting up our own business 14 years ago, we sort financial advice to safeguard our future for both our mortgage and pensions. Most recently both my parents have dementia and with the prospect of funding long term care we wanted to understand how best we could approach this area.

How has Thornton Holmes helped you?

Advice on the mortgage product gave us the flexibility we needed to stay in our home and make the changes needed to accommodate a growing family. Having worked in the corporate world for 20 years, we had a number of pension pots which we were able to consolidate so the funds could work more effectively. As for my parents there is constant advice and support on their situation which is quite fluid.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Thornton is extremely sensitive and supportive when it comes to financial advice, always explaining the situation and likely outcomes which ensures your expectations are set - so always provides the outcome you were hoping for.

There have been a number of issues over the years, but principally I've needed advice about pensions and savings and investments.

Yes, he and his colleague Rachel have always been ready to provide excellent and clear advice as well as going the extra mile to provide that service. Last time we met, he drove 100 miles to see me in order to provide that speedy service.

Simply to pull together my myriad of pensions together on reaching 60 years of age to understand my options.

How has Thornton Holmes helped you?

Thornton pulled together the numerous pensions that I have contributed to together into one place to provide a clear picture that could easily be understood by me as a layman. Both he and his team never needed 'chasing' and provided information in a timely manner to ensure I was kept fully informed of progress made and choices available.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

To the extent that all my pensions are now in one place. I have been able to draw on my tax free sum to carry out linger for home improvements whilst now being able to call upon a decent pension when and should the need arise.

What could they have done better?

My only, very slight, criticism which is not about him or his team, is that the compliance team Orchid Financial Services use insisted on an especially cautious, possibly overly cautious advice which was not that given by Thornton. Having said that, erring on the side of caution is not a bad thing and, if anything, illustrates that Orchid surround themselves with colleagues and suppliers who provide similarly high services demonstrating financial probity and professional integrity; all we can hope for from people with whom we entrust our long term financial planning.

Thornton always gives an honest and sensible opinion about my prospects, with whatever venture I am currently undertaking. He takes the time to give all the options, even those he would not recommend. He then makes it very clear which ones he does recommend and gives all the reasons why I should follow his advice in great detail. Everything is always conducted in a timely manner. If Thornton had not taken that first risk on me more than a decade ago, I would not be the success that I am today.
