I had 5 separate pensions and was made redundant due to the COVID situation and this focused my need to fully review my pensions, savings and options going forward.

To place my assets in to a more dynamic but risky financial vehicle to achieve greater returns than those offered by more secure saving such as banks.

He strongly advised against certain high risk ideas I pursued. His advice was accurate and fair, ultimately ignored, but extremely important during the decision making process. Despite his better/ professional judgement after much discussion he allow myself (the client) the final word. I couldn't ask for a fairer service.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I used 'Vouchedfor' to seek out a few suggestions for pension, life assurance and longer term financial planning advice, from which I chose two advisors to meet with. I wanted to consolidate various private and old company pensions, if it was to be the right thing and financially beneficial to do so.

How has James Lawton helped you?

On meeting James, I immediately felt at ease and considered him to be an open, well informed and helpful person with whom I could establish the longer term financial support relationship that I now sought at this stage in my life (a 52yr old looking to firm up my retirement future). James, along with others I looked at, fitted the bill perfectly as, alongside the fact that I felt I could work with him for many years, being an accountant myself, I was pleased with his charging model for the whole of the life of the product I wished to purchase, rather than focussing on low up front costs with larger follow up costs.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

James, following a well summarised initial meting, provided me with a very comprehensively researched proposal to consolidate 4 existing pensions into a newer type of pension/retirement product - the type of which I was previously unaware, due to the recent changes in pension regulations that allow so much more flexibility now. I would recommend anyone in my situation to get just such a review - at least an initial chat - with a financial advisor as like me, you could be pleasantly surprised. Yes, there could be what seem at first to be considerable charges involved, but when compared to my status quo, these should soon be covered by my new policy and there is no initial cash outlay required as they can come out of the fund balance transferred.

Not a lot really - I am very happy with James's service and commitment - both to my immediate needs and to our longer term relationship...wish I'd engaged him years ago!

I contacted VouchedFor at approximately 2pm and I then received a phone call from James Lawton at 6.30pm the same day. I made an appointment to see James do discuss my Pension at my home. He informed me that he would give a one hour consultation free of charge. He was very punctual and arrived on time. We discussed my Pension and looked at the various options available to me. I decided to take the advice of James and go with his recommendation. In my opinion James is a very honest and reputable adviser. At no time did he advise me to do anything that was not in my best interest. In conclusion I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending him to friends and family.

I have been looking to diversify my retirement plan and was looking to retire by 55, at 46 I knew my pension fund wouldn't achieve what I needed to cover financially. I wanted to purchase houses to rent and had a target of 15 from Sept 2016 to 2025.

How has James Lawton helped you?

James, above all is very professionally and at the same time extremely personable which has helped with building trust and credibility. Within my first year and a half year James has found some amazing BTL deals for me that other FA's hadn't unlocked and I now have 6 other properties and 1 more currently going through the legal process. The latter BTL was extremely difficult and due to changes in legislation I had fallen into a different bracket of BTL's (the government are trying to reduce larger landlord portfolio's which is impacting smaller LL such as myself unfortunately). James did a huge amount of research and indeed called around lenders rather than just input my details and figure online which would have impacted my credit score and I'm positive would have ended being rejected, I am very happy that James, only yesterday secured me a fantastic deal with a low rate and has unlocked a lender that can help me grow my small portfolio to where I ultimately need to be. My pensions has also been assessed by James and I moved this over last year on his advise which has seen better growth than the previous portfolio.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were given some poor advice from another professional, regarding a buy to let mortgage, and needed someone who knew their stuff to set us back on the right path!

James undertook a thorough analysis of our situation and explained clearly what our options were. He then oversaw the entire application process through to completion, making it effortless and without any cause for stress or inconvenience.

Nothing. James explained all the various possibilities and was keen to ensure myself and my wife understood that there were no guarantees regarding investments. He is a very personable man who is very easy to get on with and explains things in a way that a complete novice like myself can understand. His attitude was unbiased and left the decisions to us having given us the benefit of his knowledge and experience. The decision to go with James has proven to be a good one and I would highly recommend him.

How has James Lawton helped you?

I have known James for several years now since our first meeting resulting from a 'cold call' . I had several occupational pensions at the time and didn't know what to do with them. James suggested combining them in to one pension, which we did and I achieved 10 per-cent growth in the first year! Prior to then, I had been lucky to get 4 per-cent. Now my pension pot is looking much healthier and I can't recommend James (or Futures Assured) highly enough. They are a close-knit business that seem to look after their clients very well indeed. I am always made to feel welcome.

What could they have done better?

James seemed natural and genuine. There was no pressure. That worked for me.

How has James Lawton helped you?

James was exceptionally easy to talk to. Breaks down the jargon very well and gave me honest impartial advice that did not always benefit him personally to ensure the product was right for me. The products he provided have delivered on all promises including a significant insuarance claim which could have been an issue for me and a fantastic mortgage and investment portfolio. Could not be happier giving a recommendation.

Great impartial advice and reduced my life cover bill also got me extra cover on the policy which the old policy did not have, this gave me extra peace of mind. I did have a question about the policy and best way to work it and James was very knowledgeable which gave me confidence in the policy I was signing up for.
