I've had financial advisers for many years. The last one retired but I wasn't happy with the large firm who took over his clients. A query arose from HMIT regarding my pension pot which I didn't understand. I had a free consultation with Terry who clearly explained the problem and sorted it out. That was 4 years ago.

How has Terry Stuart helped you?

Terry sorted out the HMIT problem so that I was able to sleep at night! From the beginning he has understood my aims regarding my pensions and savings and over the last four years has ensured that I'm able to achieve these. He has clearly explained the advantages and disadvantages of his advice and in addition to our annual reviews he is always contactable. I have appreciated and followed his advice regarding Inheritance Tax

The outcome of having Terry as my financial adviser has, in addition to the increase in the value of my investments, given me peace of mind. I'm now more aware of my financial situation and have every confidence in Terry as my adviser.

There is nothing Terry could have done better for me. I've been so happy with his advice that I recommended him to my daughter who is now one of his clients

He was brilliant, he took time with us walked us through what we may want and what we needed. He has a wealth of knowledge and experience and we feel we are in safe hands. I feel Terry goes above and beyond, he is a credit to the profession, we were worried about approaching a financial advisor as we had heard so many different stories and had been put off in the past with bad advice given to us, but we need never had been nervous, and i would most certainly have no trouble recommending him.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I signed up to the company that Terry worked for, about 5 years prior to retirement after the company came into work to talk about financial planning for retirement.

How has Terry Stuart helped you?

For the past several years, Terry has been my IFA. I have been extremely happy with the service that Terry provides; he is very personable, explains issues clearly and is very approachable, He comes to my home for an annual review but follow up queries are followed up quickly and efficiently by phone, email, text etc. I am very confident that he is offering advice in my best interests.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Despite the UK economic recession and its subsequent aftermath my investment funds have grown; a very pleasing outcome. I do not have the knowledge required to manage my finances and neither do I have the interest. I am content to leave my affairs to Terry and Gracechurch. Although I am not wealthy, I feel very fortunate to be able to live comfortably in retirement because my annuity and pension arrangements advised by Terry provide a sound income. As a result of the his advice, my estate has grown and I should be able to pass on a substantial amount more on my death.

What could they have done better?

I do not know of anything that Terry could have done to improve the service and advice offered.

How has Terry Stuart helped you?

Terry was recommended to me by my brother who was already one of his customers. He has now been assisting me with all my financial matters over the last 5 years , taking me from someone who's financial savings expertise was limited to cash ISA's to trying a variety of saving options which has substantially increase my saving potential. He remains patient and always ready to help, when I seek his expertise & advice for clarification following many of the investment letters I receive. I admit to being daunted by financial matters & an over cautious investor but I am totally confident for Terry to guide me and follow his suggestions from the wealth of knowledge & expertise he has. In 2012 I had to take a carers break from work as my Mother was seriously ill, Terry was invaluable suggesting alternative savings options to make my finances more accessable whilst I could not work. Later when My Mother died Terry again recommended investment & pension options to fit me knew circumstances, I am so reassured by his expertise I now readily trust & take his advice . How has Terry Stuart helped you?

Terry was recommended to me about seven years ago when I needed some urgent pensions advice. He is very knowledgable about current services and processes and also up to speed with future regulatory changes and their likely implications. He has always been very patient and human - explaining pension options in the presence of two children under three and being willing to keep re caping as I lost concentration. Since then Terry has advised us on life insurance products helping us find an affordable option that would give us the cover we need and we continue to speak on an annual basis. I always recommend him to friends looking for an IFA.

What could they have done better?

I think this is outside Terry's control but I have found the paperwork when buying products can be fairly impenetrable and, to the lay person, bafflingly comprehensive - if there were any way of summarising to the salient points that would be brilliant! As it relates to long-term financial planning I feel uncomfortable if the paperwork does not match Terry's clear layman' explanations.

How has Terry Stuart helped you?

About 8 years ago, I found myself with retirement approaching fast and money to invest and was looking for a financial adviser with no clear idea of where to turn. Terry's reputation went before him - he was recommended to me by friends of a friend and I have used his services ever since. He has changed companies in that time - I continued to use him, preferring to stay with someone I knew and trusted and who I was confident understood my financial needs and wishes. While I thought I understood the basics, the complex financial world can (still) sometimes seem like a foreign language to me. I first engaged Terry in 2008 when I took retirement as a teacher, when, for the first time, I had some money to invest; my Teachers' Pension lump sum. 2008 just happened to be the year of the biggest financial crisis for many years. Terry's reassurance, encouragement and sound advice gave me the confidence to follow his advice in the best ways to invest this money. His wise council helped me understand why this, in fact, was an excellent time to have some money to invest as long as it was invested wisely. Time proved Terry correct. Since then I have continued to use Terry as my financial adviser. He has always given me sound advice with careful consideration to my particular needs. Consequently I shall continue to do so in the future.

What could they have done better?

The only thing I can think of is that periodically I receive e mails, not from Terry, but from an investor within the company asking me to give my permission for the companyto go ahead with new investment proposals. The issue is that the attachments are far too detailed and complex for me to fully understand what I am agreeing to! A simplified explanation directly from Terry would be much appreciated.

I am very pleased you have reaped the rewards. The emails you mention are received as you are one of the investors that access our in house investment portfolio's. Inevitably we have clients with varying levels of knowledge and investment expertise, unfortunately it is impossible to pitch the format to every single clients level of understanding and preference. We do point out however that if you are using this service it is because you wish to take advantage of our investment knowledge, therefore clients are simply emailing back to accept the recommendations we are providing without needing to examine in detail our data and commentary. I would add that as an independent Financial adviser I can recommend a number of alternative strategies where you would not need to have any input with the portfolio changes.

Terry Stuart has provided comprehensive financial advice and support to myself and my family for over ten years, during which time I have been through the critical period of approaching, and now reaching, retirement. Terry's work for us has ensured that my wife and I have a much improved and flexible income for our retirement, compared to what may have been the case had we not benefited from his advice. In particular, this has allowed me to retire two to three years earlier than would otherwise have been possible. Terry is particularly expert in the areas of pensions and pension planning, and inheritance tax, as well as wider financial planning for the whole family. Terry has been my financial adviser since 1994 or '95. He has advised on, indeed fashioned, the plan for the financial side of my life. It began with helping me establish my personal pension. Following the untimely death of my wife he guided me through the best structuring of the survivor's provision left for myself and my 6 year old daughter. He worked closely with me ensuring that these funds were effectively husbanded until my own pension matured. He has been a trusted backstop in finding the most secure path providing for my daughter's education, in whatever direction it may go. Over all of these years I cannot think of an instance where he has put a foot wrong. Terry is scrupulous about returning calls in a timely fashion. He is proactive about updating me on all important changes or variation. At every decision point he has been assiduous about making certain that I was aware of the level of risk entailed in his recommendation. I can have no complaint with the man. During the initial meeting he adopts a personal approach he uses his well developed ability to listen to and understand the client's needs to assess which portfolio will best meet their risk tolerance.
