I was not happy with our previous financial advisor and actively seeking a more proactive approach for the range of investments, policies and funds we hold as a company. I had shortlisted Amanda's company Gemini and then had a personal recommendation for Gemini from a good friend who happened to be an accountant. After some initial meetings I was more than happy to move across.

Amanda is happy to get involved in some of the minutiae that a client feels is important but is often brushed over in the rush to complete a transaction. She is also contactable easily either directly or through her PA, Lillee in quick time.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
It is an ongoing movie at present but we are progressing along the right path with Amanda directing.

Amanda, Gemini and the team are not responsible for COVID or the Cost of Living Crisis, of course, and that has been costly but the speed of reaction and continuous monitoring gives me confidence we will be in a good position to move forward soon.

We sought advice from Mandy following the receipt of an inheritance after the death of my father-in-law, what to do with a sum having taken voluntary redundancy from work and how best to use my occupational pension that would be of most benefit to us and our children.

Mandy asked for information concerning our background, what we were hoping to achieve in the future and what our expenditure plans were. Having discussed these points Mandy explained (in a clear and extremely patient manner), where we should be focussing our attention and what options were available to us.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Following several meetings with Mandy during which a number of points were clarified further, we finally decided on our next steps and committed to the course of action that was recommended. We fully understood that this action would suit our needs/requirements for the future and answered the questions we had originally when seeking Mandy's advice in the first place. Unfortunately upon further investigation it became apparent that the planned course of action would not be as beneficial due to issues with my workplace pension provider. Upon discovering this, Mandy immediately contacted me and having explained the problems advised a different course of action that I have subsequently taken and am satisfied with. Following the change of plan we are looking forward to dealing with Mandy again in the future.

Mandy always displayed a professional manner and is obviously knowledgeable in finance, whilst always being patient with people such as my wife and I whose knowledge is limited.

In terms of returns (acid test) not yet, as its probably too early to rate but it all looks very positive and I a very optimistic. If I hadn't gone to Mandy, I wouldn't have chosen what definitely looks like the right choice for my particular circumstances.

There was no pressure or need to take out any new policy as Amanda advised us that our current setup was working well for us at the moment. She did advise that it would be worth reviewing in a years time. Really happy with that as it was refreshing to find someone who gave us honest advice without being pushed into taking out an unnecessary policy at the moment. We feel we know better where we are at and where we are heading financially.

Our money was invested at a very difficult time for the financial markets and we did, initially, experience a significant reduction in our capital. Although we would ideally have hoped for greater investment returns, we do acknowledge that the last few years have been particularly difficult ones for the markets.
What could they have done better?
On a personal level, I failed to fully understand that income from my pension 'pot' would be taxable. Although I don't doubt that this point would have been explained to me, I failed to understand the implications. With hindsight, perhaps this aspect should have been reinforced more forcibly.

Very personable and approachable whilst remaining highly professional. Amanda will always go the extra mile and responds to all enquiries, during out of work hours as well as always ensuring that our call has been noted and will be responded to if not immediately available. She understands our personal circumstances very well and advises accordingly.
What could they have done better?
Amanda and Gemini have made it clear verbally and through contracts / documentation how much their charges are and the investments made for us are well in excess of these charges from them and from Skandia, but even though we are probably unlikely to make any new investments, I don't think we realised that on top of the % charges (3% set up and 1% thereafter), Skandia also charged an extra 1%. We would still have gone ahead but I hope this might be constructive and not something that Gemini might have made clear and we have missed!

I approached Gemini, and Mandy in particular as, after searching for an adviser for some time, they seemed to offer the best level of service for my needs.
