I first went to see Paul about lifetime pensions allowances and what my options were

Paul spent some time understanding my situation and what I wanted to get out of the meeting and then spent a great deal of time explaining the different options I had and what might be best for me. We had a couple of meeting and Paul was very patient and happy to explain what, to me, was very complicated products and what different things meant. As a result, I moved my pension pot into a professionally managed fund that would give me greater stability and a safer outcome when I retire. He also advised me on setting up trusts to reduce my exposure to inheritance tax

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. I now have a more stable and flexible pension at a risk level that I am comfortable with

What could they have done better?

Nothing really. Paul was very helpful, explained things in detail and in a way that was easy to understand and no pressure to take things forward. The whole team in the office were very helpful too.

Perhaps more emphasis on the fact that the organisation we invested with through MLP Wealth would be taking up front fees from any investment made. I clearly understood that would be the case for the financial adviser as he had given us his time and knowledge but wrongly assumed the fees for the investment would be after 1 year not upfront.

Paul explained all the pros and cons of the differing equity release companies . He spent some time finding the right product to meet my needs . I found Paul was very easy to talk to and he was very re assuring even in these difficult times (Covid19) . All our discussions took place over the phone but i was still able to understand all the issues.

Yes -I have and i am very grateful to Paul and his team . They were very efficient in reaching targets .

Review of arrangements that Paul managed following my attendance at a client seminar arranged by Paul & his colleagues at MLP

How has Paul Standerwick helped you?

Paul and I discussed splitting my pension in order to create a reserve fund that could be drawn upon if required over the next 3 years or so without crystallising my main portfolio, all of the funds remaining invested with the same provider. This meant that I was not hit with either transfer or set up fees. It also gave me the opportunity to re-assess my attitude to risk in conjunction with projecting my likely income during semi-retirement in the approach to receiving the state pension later in the year.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Too early to assess, however the changes made give me comfort that in the current volatile market I have some 'insurance' in the event that I need to realise some funds over the medium term.

What could they have done better?

Publicise the fact that existing clients don't just have to wait until an annual review or until their circumstances change to have an in-depth talk!

I responded to a Vouchedfor offer of a free report. I was interested in IHT planning. Paul conducted a broad brush phone interview which confirmed an IHT liability and he outlined some options with charges but these were not exhaustive and a more thorough interview would be required to complete a detailed recommendation. I am not quite ready to commence plans but it is on the future to do list. Paul emphasised he was a family firm which spells continuity with financial relationships.

He was happy to meet in person to go over details and never tried to rush me, or pressure me into a decision. Paul has taken his time to advise me properly, has never put me under pressure on any decision and in the short time I have been dealing with him, has given excellent advice. On one occasion he has advised me against investing as he thought it was in my best interests' not to.

I found out about Paul from a search of trusted advisors through VouchedFor and the feedback he received, his local base, and my need to take stock of and rationalise my personal pension holdings into a newer type of contract that could be simply accessed, all suggested that he would be the right person to help.

How has Paul Standerwick helped you?

Paul re-assessed my attitude to risk and talked me through a range of options, taking into account a number of possible short and medium term scenarios that might arise, and the associated costs of his advice.

I am happy that I have at last taken professional financial advice, which Paul fully explained at each step. Whilst it is too early to assess the overall performance of the pension fund, I am confident that the portfolio will perform as expected.

What could they have done better?

Set up costs are assessed as a percentage of the fund value, however some understanding of how these are actually calculated might help potential clients to assess value for money when comparing IFAs. There is always a cost for advice - the more transparent this is, the more likely potential customers will be to take paid-for advice rather than take the 'do-nothing' default option.

Dear Martin Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I am glad you are pleased with the level of service provided thus far. As discussed at our first meeting, we offer 3 different ways of charging; fixed cost, % entry fee, or an hourly rate. Most clients opt for the fixed fee, or % set up fee, which are inevitably very similar, as this way they don't incur costs for exploring their options, or until they are sure they want to proceed. I believe this was the reason you decided not to go for the hourly rate, which begins charging after the free initial consultation, for all work. Again this cost will likely end up similar, but you run the risk of incurring additional costs, for time spent. As you are aware, we then disclose the fees in £'s and as a % of fund value and you sign 3 seperate forms to confirm you understand and are aware of this before we proceed, so we can be sure there is no misunderstanding.
