What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

had performed my own research and Pension projections. I wanted a cross check on my numbers and also advice on the best and most efficient strategies for taking my and my wife pensions.

How has David Bright helped you?

Our joint pension situation was perhaps more complicated than some as a result of being TUPE'd four times and having changed employer voluntarily four times as well . David (and his colleagues in their back office) helped by firstly checking my own understanding of our pension positions, putting a structure around these and also by using his industry knowledge and experience couple with statistical modelling to validate future cash flow and income under several conditions in order to provide a worse case, expected case and best case analysis. David has a calm, reflective and authoritative persona that very much helped get his messages across. I don't beleive my wife would object to this statement but he also adapted his approach to explaining various situations to the individual which greatly helped me convince my wife that we were indeed in a reasonable place , pension wise. He also understood the seriousness and magnitude of this phase of peoples lives and put in a great deal of effort (again I will say with colleagues support in the background ...thank you Janet) to resolve questions and concerns, where they did crop up. For me the most valuable input came with the strategies for taking our pensions and David provided an approach that I had not considered, further refining that approach to a subset of his original idea that met our joint objective for income and flexibility. In summary: Authoritative Knowledgeable Patient Adaptable Flexible ....and unusually in most service industries these days...Absolutely puts his customers interest first.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. I was clear with my reasons for engaging a financial advisor and this was something we jointly discussed at the beginning and David never lost sight of that. So I received the advice and guidance I needed and wanted and our strategy and for taking our various pensions is in place and active.

What could they have done better?

There was nothing major I would say in this regard. I have a particular engagement style that we soon got used to between us and I enjoyed our discussion on options and strategies. It felt a very collaborative process. This comment is not really for David or his company but more for those reading this review. The pension providers are slow...and I mean VERY slow. So I'd advise engaging David a good 12 months before your anticipated retirement date...not because of him or his company ( they chased and pushed the providers hard) but just because the providers are very slow and Im afraid to say, not always over endowed with common sense...another reason fro engaging a provider in my view!

We approached David from both a personal and business perspective; to provide advice surrounding pensions and financial planning to ensure that we are investing our pensions wisely on a personal level and on a business level to advise on our mortgage, shareholdings and savings.

My late father sought the expertise of David and Blackstone Moregate many years ago. Thank goodness he did. Now I am helping my mother to look after her financial affairs with the help of David's advice. I wouldn't know where to start or have the confidence to do so. Third party guidance is invaluable if you don't know what you're doing. Mum has peace of mind making financial decisions.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My husband died in 2015 leaving me his SIPP fund, which needed a full review of risks and requirements.

How has David Bright helped you?

David carried out a full reassessment of the portfolio, and also the way it was administered, in order to give me the most efficient use of the pension pot, and minimised the necessary charges. He has since monitored the portfolio assiduously, avoiding issues with funds and recommending changes where beneficial.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, certainly. My portfolio has performed well, over some difficult times, and I have been able to discuss with David, both at reviews and at any time in-between, my plans for use of the funds. At every stage David explains exactly how these plans can be met, and facilitates any changes decided upon.

Initially, I looked for an IFA to advise me on money left to me in my late father's will. My original IFA retired and David succeed her .

I did loose out on one annuity offer because the deadline could not be meet. It's possible that this was the fault of my then pension fund provider. However, at times there appeared to be a few delays in the process. Who was to blame for all of this is not easy to say.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I have had a surprisingly good return from my investments despite the hardships experienced through the Corona Virus and the effect that that has had on the world's stock markets.

What could they have done better?

I cannot fault his service personally. However I do feel that the documentation that is sent out at the annual review time could be simplified with less duplication which can be annoying. On the question of fees for the adviser's services, there is a lot of wording about how the charges are calculated, but there is no easy way of determining how much has actually been paid for adviser's services during the past year. This can be down by trawling through the quarterly statements but this is time consuming and not easy to consolidate into a fully inclusive annual figure, especially if the client may not be too numerate!

Following the retirement of Claude Brownlow of Winsec, I required advice about some money I inherited.

Discussed 'buying to let', but was adivised to put money into NS&I.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes at the time, but not long term as they are now reducing their interest rates!

What could they have done better?

I have problems with hearing, and he is exceptionally patient and careful to be clear. I am dependent on his knowledge , understanding and care in dealing with my finances, and feel very happy to rely on him.

I had been in a pension scheme for my whole life and, on retirement, David help to sort it all out so a) I had enough to live on, b) there was the possibility of some bonuses if the market did especially well and c) there would be cash residue for my children when I (hopefully in a long time) died, which was not the case with my company pension.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The unforeseen Covid-19 has removed the possibility of near term bonuses (which were not really expected anyway) but in all other respects, Davids advice was spot on. We recently had an annual review and changed nothing which speaks for itself.

What could they have done better?

In all honesty, nothing. We had several meetings/emails prior to making decisions so David could be sure what I was asking. He then outlined his proposal in detail, but also in plain understandable English and ensured I understood the content. Next, we triggered those actions and everything happened exactly as David outlined. We are almost 2 years in now and I feel, even in these uncertain times, comfortable that my living standard will not be eroded through the coming years.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We had been seeing a financial adviser for a number of years regarding savings and investments following an inheritance and when he was cutting back on his workload 2 years ago we were passed on to David. We were a bit apprehensive about this as we had got to know our previous adviser quite well but need not have had any worries.

It is always a pleasure to see David. He is very easy to talk to and explains things well. He is always very willing to make any changes to suit our needs and carries these out promptly and efficiently.
