What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were approaching 60 and hoping to retire earlier than the State Pension dictates. We needed a financial expert we could trust, and understand.

How has Nicholas Ryan helped you?

With Nick's planning and help we have a bond, ISA and retirement fund that has allowed us to retire earlier than we hoped. Just had another Yearly Review and we are on track and looking good, despite the current financial situation. We could not have chosen the correct Plan(s) without Nick. He is always happy to explain everything clearly and professionally.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

The outcome is better than expected, especially as we retired during Covid when the financial situation was unstable and scary. Nick comes highly recommended for a reason, we checked his credentials and reviews before we met with him and he has lived up to them.

What could they have done better?

I have no answer for this. Prior to Nick, I would hear 'white noise' when looking at our finances. I am pleased this is no longer the case, and I am confident my financial future is in safe hands.

We wanted to retire early and needed expert advice to protect our money and give us the best long term return. We chose Nick as he was highly recommended and when we met him we knew we could trust him.

How has Nicholas Ryan helped you?

With expert advice that we completely trusted, and he explained everything clearly. We have retired with a better than expected monthly income. He advised which pension to keep going as it matures in a few years and pays out for life, and which pensions we could invest for a monthly income. He also improved our old ISAs, reinvesting them into new ISAs with better returns. This is an ongoing relationship as Nick is our permanent financial advisor and we will meet once or twice a year to keep our finances on track.

Yes, actually much better. We thought our pot would last a certain amount of years. Nick has worked his magic and we are now financially secure for life. It is so good to have a financial advisor that you can rely on.

As I explained at our meeting, I had to wait for the informartion from your existing pension plans, which only recently arrived (as I have also explained by email since we met). I am bound by strict regulation and I can not proceed with any recommendations without all the facts in front of me. Therefore I feel your comments are extremely unfair, as Im sure you wouldnt want someone giving poor advice meerely to move more quickly.

When a family member was diagnosed with terminal cancer nick helped us with pension, insurance and inheritance advice. This was a real weight of our minds as we had so much to sort out. There were areas we would have lost out financially had nick not stepped in to make sure all the necessary measures were in place. Nick helped get our affairs in order and made himself available to assist in any way he could. The main reason being given totally wrong advice by a previous company called C3 who gave me misleading advice and I lost money by doing has they advised. I explained this in depth to Mr Ryan and other advisers who work for him and they provided me with very sound and impartial advise.

I explained to Mr Ryan what had happened with the Company C3 and he explained that it was a very complected scheme that they had invested my funds in and advised to change to something far less complicated and more understanding.

If an 'individual financial plan' consists of no more than being told not to put all one's eggs in one basket, then Nicholas Ryan was spot on and no complaints. However, this was clearly a discreditable means of drumming up custom for financial advisors (Mr. Ryan admitted that so far everyone who had contacted him via VouchedFor had gone on to ask him for further financial advice). I despise such discreditable methods and shall complain to The Week.

This seems rather unfair. This review was left a year after our first and only meeting. Client was reluctant to divulge her financial details (which makes advice nearly impossible) and then did not respond to our request for another meeting/further info. No contact was received from the client after the first meeting. We assumed she had changed her mind and decided to leave her alone. We certainly didn't ignore any attempt by her to contact us.

Nick helped me to consider the best products to invest in. He is generous with his time, and was very good at helping someone who is new to investing to understand investments, financial jargon and setting up a balanced portfolio according to the desired level of risk.

The investment portfolio has overall performed well.

This is 20:20 hindsight but some elements in the portfolio would have been better as simple bonds or cash as the equity as has not increased much in the good times and has dipped in the bad times.

My father was terminally ill and so he and I approached nick for help and advice on End of life planning for my father (including inheritance advice, pension, wills, trusts) following my father passing away my sister and I both sought further advice from nick for investment, mortgages, insurance and protection.

How has Nicholas Ryan helped you?

Nick was able to explain different options in basic language that we could all understand. My fathers end of life planning was a topic none of us wanted to find ourselves in but Nick was able to meet with the family at times that were convenient for us all, he discussed the different options and empowered my father to make some difficult decisions. My father was left feeling reassured that his family would be looked after knowing his affairs were all in order. My sister and I met with Nick again after my fathers death and he helped us with mortgages, insurance, protection and investments as well as pension planning.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

yes. Nicks advice regarding trusts was invaluable and meant that my sister and I had immediate access to funds needed following my fathers death so that the costly expenses we encountered with solicitors and the probate process was easily managed. Moving forward nick has allowed us both to effectively plan for our future and gain peace of mind regarding our financial planning.

The choice of a financial advisor is one of the most significant decisions on approach to retirement . I chose Nick on the basis of a personal recommendation and on our initial meeting. I have been impressed with his subsequent work. For example - there have been investment decisions to my benefit which have reduced Nick's total fees and commission. Figures show that overall - Nick's work has more than saved the cost of his fees.
