On retirement I had a number of different pension funds, managed by different companies and so needed advice on what was the best way to manage this situation.

How has Tony Woodward helped you?

Having assessed how my pension funds should be best managed for my future needs, Tony communicated with the pension companies involved and arranged for the funds to be brought together under one scheme where they can be better managed for the future. As the original pension schemes had been set up under historic regulations, this was a specialist task which required the specialist knowledge which Tony has.

Yes. My funds are now in one place where I can follow their progress easily online.

What could they have done better?

I don't think anything could have been done better. Unravelling the historic pension fund situation was a lengthy job but Tony persisted to a successful outcome.

I required quite specific advice on pension drawdown and Tony very quickly appraised my situation both in terms of what I was after and the various issues involved. As a result he was able to provide prompt advice that was very relevant and well balanced. The advice Tony provided focussed on the issue that I was trying to address and yet was wide ranging enough to cover all the key factors involved (future cash requirements, income tax, IHT, etc.). As I require further pension advice, I will have no hesitation in using Tony in the future.

He struck us, even while only being able to meet over Zoom, very understanding, calm, thorough, attentive and genuinely concerned and interested in our particular circumstances. He was patient and took time to fully gather all relevant background while understanding our objectives to produce a comprehensive financial plan for the future. The ability to do "what ifs" with this plan has been very reassuring. Tony has advised on pension transfers, reinvestment of our assets with also suggestions for maximising pension contributions and some initial inheritance tax planning.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Having only appointed Tony a few months ago, it is too early to assess the outcome of his advice as not all assets are fully transferred and reinvested yet. We are confident, though, that Tony will be regularly reviewing performance, liaising with us and the Fund Manager to ensure that objectives are being met.

I wanted to consolidate several final salary pensions in order to be more tax efficient and preserve a better inheritance for my family should something happen to me.

Tony undertook the financial review as a precursor to managing the transfer of funds in to a new pension wrapper. In spite of being, what I believe to be 'financially savvy' I could not manage this myself as the FCA will not allow any pension transfers to be undertaken without an independent review (At our cost of course!). Fortunately Tony has the necessary qualifications to run a review and the life experiences to actually add value.

We have now moved the monies into a new wrapper and Tony is working with a discretionary fund manager to reinvest the capital into appropriate investments in line with my risk appetite. Tony has given good strategic and technical advice that should help me save money and make money in the long term. For example, small details can make a big difference in future IHT liabilities.

What could they have done better?

Tony has provided a good service - I approached several pension transfer firms and received a spectrum of quotes some of which where just 'plucked out of the air' based on how much they thought they could get away with. Full disclosure - I've known Tony a long time and always held him in high regard as I know him to be ethical and trustworthy. I wouldn't normally mix a business arrangement with a friendship but this is a rare case where I needed advice and help from someone I could rely on - This is all too important to take risks with. I highly recommend Tony
