As a result of my divorce l needed to appoint my own financial adviser.

How has Mark Turkington helped you?

Mark has guided me through all the aspects associated with my private pension. He is also handling my personal investment portfolio. As I was approaching retirement I had a number of different pensions as well as funds in a consultancy company .

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes. There have of course been ups and downs in the market over the nearly 10 years but overall I am satisfied that the investments we have have provided better returns than I could have received elsewhere.

Yes my investment grew over the years of investing and now is still growing whilst i enjoy my retirement withdraws wings Yes. My investment grew during the investment years and is still growing while i enjoy my retirement withdrawals.

Not very much I have been fully kept up-to date and always have an informative annual review of my investments and if any changes need to be made i am always fully advised. On that basis there is little extra to improve.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was considering retirement, and wasn't confident in myself to understand the most efficient way to invest my company pension, my wife's pension and future funds we were planning to extract from my business. I decided to use a specialist service, and Mark was recommended by a friend.

How has Mark Turkington helped you?

Mark looked at our finances, and proposed a long term 'plan' that would provide us with the pension we had hoped for. We sat down, discussed the proposal and after a few days reflection, decided to go ahead. I was initially concerned that i would be trusting some-one with our pensions, but Mark gave me the confidence i needed.

We are nearing the end of year 2, we are still working and yet to formally start the pension. The funds initially grew very well, but have taken a bit of a hit due to the worldwide financial crisis, which i fully understand. I know am a little unusual. Mark has taken everything with good humour and he has stood by me through thick and thin. Across what is now over 20 years he has calmly and clearly overseen the bigger picture. No matter what has happened Mark has been there a steady hand on the tiller. Mark is a trusted friend. There is never any pressure just solid sound sense. I have had dealings with a number of prestigious financial institutions over the years all have failed to deliver. Given the time and uncertainty it is hard to say what I had hoped for. What I do know now is, I have is all my financial affairs under Mark’s supervision and my situation is beyond great. I had various pension "pots" from previous employers and I wanted someone to guide me through all my options. One of the firms I was working for employed Mark Turkington and his company to provide quotations for mortgages. I liked Mark's professional approach, so I asked him to review my pensions.

Mark is very patient and guided me through what he proposed to do about amalgamating all the pension "pots", knowing that in the near future (four or five years) I would be retiring. With all the above mentioned circumstances plus forecasting total financial position over the years till assumed date of death. The latter service is truly helpful and reassuring. It plots and plans you income, expenditure, significant financial events and whether you are in the black or red in all years. To see this in a pictorial way is so much better that seeing a load of numbers. Highly recommended, especially for those who may not be so financially aware or numbers oriented.

I had recently retired and was not sure what to do with my pension. Mark came to Phyllis Court in Henley and I went with others to hear his pitch.

He helped me to buy out my pension from my employer and put the funds in a SIPP. With this I could manage the investments myself and he believed that the passing of pensions down the generation would eventually become possible without massive taxation penalties. This indeed has come to pass.

Mark advised on the adequacy of existing savings and pension arrangements. He was particularly helpful when I decided to resign my job and become self employed. He has also managed an increasing share of my investments.

I have been very happy with Mark's financial planning. My investments have performed well under his management too - though in the current market it would have been difficult not to!.

What could they have done better?

The Personal Finance Portal is, frankly, a waste of time. Perhaps it works better for people who wish to track outgoings and liabilities as well as savings, and perhaps financial objectives, but as a tracker purely of assets it provides very little useful information. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

On starting a business in my early 40's one of the key objectives was to establish a pension scheme for myself and my business partner. Mark was recommended to me by a business contact who was an existing client.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My father had used Mark Turkington's company for several years for Investments and Savings and Inheritance Planning. I chose to have one of the investments I inherited transferred into my name and therefore carried on using Mark as my financial adviser.

Mark did a wonderful job limiting the inheritance tax I had to pay on my father's estate, due to the advice he had given my Dad as part of his inheritance planning. Mark knows that currently I am not in a position to take up all the advice he could offer, since many of my savings are in joint names with my husband, but he appreciates my circumstances and never tries to "hard sell". Therefore the main help is by managing my WRAP account.

The WRAP account continues to do better than all savings accounts I could open online or on the High Street, therefore I am happy with the outcome. My personal risk profile is cautious to moderate, which limits the returns I can expect to receive.

When my former business partner and I started a new business approximately 20 years ago we decided that one of our personal priorities would be to create pension funds that would provide us with an income in retirement that would allow us to maintain our living standards through our retirement years.

How has Mark Turkington helped you?

Mark initially asked what we though our requirements were, and investigated our attitude to the amount of risk we were prepared to take with our investments. He then explained how he could help us to achieve our aims whilst using his experience to miniseries the risks. He was, however, always careful to emphasise that investments will involve risk, so good advice is essential. Throughout the investment period we met Mark annually to review progress on the fund and ensure that it remained on target to achieve our requirements.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We sold our business and retired approximately 18 months ago. Throughout the period of investment prior to retirement Mark regularly checked if our attitude to risk had changed, and when it did our portfolio was adjusted accordingly. Our joint pension fund was split between us on retirement so that we could make individual choices on the level of pension payments we required, and how the fund should be invested in the future. I am now receiving monthly payments to accommodate a very comfortable retirement, together with one-off payments to allow me to tick items off my bucket list!.

What could they have done better?

I genuinely cannot think of anything that could have been done better - I guess reduced fees would have been nice but am content that Mark's fees were competitive for the level and standard of service provided.
