My financial position has improved and continues to improve under Neil’s guidance. I have seen very recent real benefit after critical care cover put in place unfortunately had to come into use. This significantly eased the burden brought about by these unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Received an inheritance and wanted independent advice on how best to invest it, as well as a general financial review.

How has Neil Henderson helped you?

Neil conducted a thorough fact find and took time to get to know me, my financial history, motivations and preferences. I was then given a recommendation report which Neil went through with me in detail, checking I understood everything. I was quite nervous but Neil put me at ease, patiently answered my questions and didn't rush me to make decisions. As well as finding me a suitable investment fund for my lump sum, which I would never have been able to find or access myself, Neil provided a full review of all my financial arrangements, including pensions. Support has been ongoing and ad hoc, with an annual review. Communication from Neil has been excellent and the client portal on the Mission Financial Planning website is easy to use.

There were multiple reasons for seeking financial advise - we have a rental property, several pension pots from previous employments and had no life insurance cover to speak of. Having recently moved house and taking out an increased mortgage, it was prudent for me to review the level of cover offered by my Employer to cover potential loss of income through illness, or death. On reviewing my cover, I decided that the level in place was not adequate, and therefore required further advice from a Financial Adviser.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My wife and I were retiring before the state pension age. We both had occupational, final salary pensions as well as defined contribution schemes. We needed advice on whether or not to take all of the money from the DB schemes and how to deal with our other investments heading for retirement.

How has Neil Henderson helped you?

Neil has guided us through the process of a tax-efficient retirement. This was not straight forward as we had to evaluate whether or not to withdraw the pension pot from the company, defined benefit schemes and then consider the defined contribution schemes that we also had as well as investments. In addition he has been happy to fight on our behalf when some of our previous investments have fallen short in their service to us.

It is early days in our retirement but, so far everything is going according to expectations. We have a plan that is regularly reviewed. As with all long term plans, only time will tell. There is certainly nothing to suggest that there will be any problems with us achieving a comfortable, stress-free retirement in financial terms!

I don't believe that there are any areas that could really be improved upon. The only slight hitch came in getting the correct information from Nucleus required for a tax refund. This only delayed getting the refund.

Neil I consider to have a safe pair of hands who has helped us to steadily build up our capital with consideration to our risk profiles. Neil has outlined the risks of investing and encouraged us to preserve some of the gains made rather than taking unnecessary risks. Some of his reports can be rather long and repetitive making it slightly difficult to sort out the wood from the trees especially with regards to the fee structure and how it actually affects the value of your investments. However, all of the information is in the report which is very comprehensive. A shortened summary of the main salient points at the bottom of each section or at the end of the report would be helpful for the occasions when you require a quick resume to help make a decision.

The death of my wife's mother left an inheritance, an ongoing trust and the requirement to set up further investments and a trust for her nieces and nephews.
