What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was coming out of a protracted divorce and initially contacted Richard for advice on the best approach to pension sharing. However, it quickly became clear that I needed to look at my finances in general.

How has Richard Janes helped you?

The dynamic in my marriage and during my divorce left me unable to see the woods for the trees when it came to my finances. I was paralysed in a belief that I would never be able to retire and found it really hard (emotionally) to even discuss finances without getting upset. I also believed that I'd find a financial adviser unrelatable as I work in a lower income sector and my interests are nature, the outdoors, and a love of the simple. Richard quickly grasped my needs and passions, and showed me how I could achieve the life I want to live and retire at a reasonable age. This has been a weight off my shoulders and has made me feel positive instead of negative about moving from my home into a smaller property that will enable me to provide a base for my children, give me more time and freedom to do the things I enjoy, and plan for my future retirement.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, financially I have my pension transfer sorted, a plan for ongoing investments (pension, ISAs), an idea of the income I should aim to generate, and a goal for retirement. Emotionally I feel like I can finally move forwards.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I’m a high earner with basically no pension and hitting 50 so thought I’d better do something about it!

He’s put in a place a carefully considered plan to play catch up with my pension, get 40% tax relief and invest for growth.

I want to be able to retire early. I had quite a few old pensions and I didn’t know how much I needed to save or when I could retire.
