What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

A need to overhaul our pensions and investment management as we enter the final stages of our careers.

How has Ross Butters helped you?

3/4 of working life spent in self-employment with no company pension necessitated best independent pension advice.

Took over from prior IFA, and provided considerably improved quality of investment advice over many years, including switch of existing pension schemes with traditional insurance companies to consistently successful SIPP. Particularly good at constructively discussing my own proposals for specific investments which differed from his own recommendations (most acted upon happily successful); and proactive in alerting me to potential tax and related legislative changes.

I wanted management of pension assets that were formerly self-administered.

How has Ross Butters helped you?

Ross recommended allocation into a flexible low-cost platform, and helped choice of risk-appropriate portfolio. Ross did some useful analysis on the real net costs of investing in various platforms. This is now supposed to be more transparent in the TER, but there is considerable wiggle room in providers' numbers, hence the investigation.

Yes.

What could they have done better?

I would like Omnium to keep reviewing the rapidly developing managed funds, and tracker funds and alternative sectors as part of their service. There may be scope to segment by investment style, rather than asset sector.

Ross was very helpful and informative at our initial meeting. He was very generous with his time and made a real effort to connect with me as a person to find out what my needs would be. He was happy to give lots of background about himself and the company, suggesting that, in his view, the relationship with a financial planner can be one of the most important professional relationships that an individual has. I also appreciated the time that Ross took to explain structural elements of the pensions marketplace in a way that was easy to understand yet wasn't patronising. He followed up promptly with his proposal and costings, which I am currently considering.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Having conducted our own various investment strategies over the years we wanted an overall appraisal of our financial situation, advice on pension strategy and advice on investment strategy.

How has Ross Butters helped you?

Ross provided us with a complete appraisal of our current financial situation and provided us with various options that we could consider for the future. His appraisal was thorough, his findings and options were all clearly explained to us, he was open and easy to work with and we felt comfortable trusting him.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

It's still early days to assess an outcome and Ross can't control the markets but what I can say is that executing our preferred strategies was done efficiently and Ross and his team were again thorough and looked after all that they could.

What could they have done better?

We were happy with the service we received both in terms of content and the manner it was provided. The rules and regulations require that a massive report be provided and the thing for us is that Ross cuts through this when you meet with him so that you can understand the key messages and the decisions needed together with their implications. I think the other factor is the costs of both the advice and investments again this needs to be clear and fully explained.

Initially pensions advice but developed into consolidation of financial assets and broader investment advice.

Reviewed finances and attitude to risk, explained clearly how the financial markets were changing and what regulatory requirements were. Used good analogies to illustrate points in a way I understood. Provided good tax and pension advise to ensure efficiency of a number of investment streams.

My initial aspirations for returns promised by Ross's predecessor have not been met but in the 5 plus years Ross has been advising me my investments have usually outperformed markets and certainly yielded better returns than if I had invested myself. Financial modelling to assess my retirement needs was also extremely useful as was interaction with my tax advisors.

What could they have done better?

I am not convinced that my previous advisor gave the best advice about the timing for taking my final salary pension - Ross on the other hand has given sound advice and I trust his advice and his judgement such that I now have sustainable pension arrangements through my retirement

It was necessary to change my IFA. , as by good fortune I read the small print on a recommended transaction from my previous IFA and the commission payable was unacceptable .

I started using a financial advisor over 30 years ago when my salary started to be such that I was making substantial savings and began to earn bonuses. I need advice as to how best to invest when I knew very little about what was available, how to choose and how to access the products. Ross is probably my 3rd or 4th financial advisor.

Many ways: 1. Advised on ongoing savings. 2. Helped me prepare financially for retirement from income earning work. 3.
