Becoming a business owner and the business began to grow and so did our financial situation did, not knowing what to do this was the best way of getting advice and support.

Not sure if the box is big enough but, in every way possible Chris helped us to understand of financial future and put a structure in place to make our lives a little easier not have to worry. Also supported us through more personal elements of future plans and the list goes on.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Had a sizeable amount of cash just sitting in a current account with no real plan of what to do with it but also had some future plans that I wanted to progress. These included ensuring any investments would have the right level of inheritance protection for my children and as I moved toward retirement and that my income levels would enable a higher degree of spend on other aspects such as travel.

How has Chris Broome helped you?

Chris understood exactly what I was aiming to do and proposed not only a suitable investment portfolio but also constructed a life plan ensuring both my children were protected from high levels of inheritance tax and that I could achieve my goals for the progression into retirement.

On retirement we needed advice on personal pension consolidation, the pension lifetime allowance, maximising income from existing investments and inheritance tax planning.

We had a number of meetings with Chris to discuss our existing financial arrangements and his recommendations for meeting our objectives. A number of inheritance tax strategies were considered before we decided on the most appropriate approach for our circumstances. I had a defined pension in the UK that I wanted to transfer. An added complication was that I live abroad. My husband and I had also accumulated fairly significant savings which we needed advise on how best to invest.

How has Chris Broome helped you?

After having spoken to 3 other IFA’s, I felt that Chris was the right fit for us. This was primarily because he listened and demonstrated that he fully understood my pension situation which was a little complex because of various factors. In addition to his knowledge, he was professional but also very open and friendly. Overall, my husband and I felt he was the right fit for us.

Chris managed to release my defined pension within a timeline that was tight and complex. I was looking for good and sound advice on pensions including withdrawal from final salary pensions and the options for products like drawdown and annuity. It was important for me that I spoke to someone qualified and certified to be able to give the best advice.

Having been left a reasonable sum of money I wanted to ensure it achieved capital growth and was protected as much as possible from IHT for the benefit of my children.

How has Chris Broome helped you?

Having accurately assessed my current financial, lifestyle situation and attitude to risk Chris proposed a number of solutions clearly defining the pros and cons of each. We then carefully reviewed the options and agreed on the most suitable approach that I felt comfortable with. Even though I work in the Financial sector Chris still clearly explained the immediate and longer term benefits of the selected solution.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I feel very comfortable with the solution and more secure that my estate is now well invested and protected with the right level of flexibilty allowing immediate access should I require it and that it is protected from IHT for the forseeable future. Although it is still early in the solution life cycle the products chosen fit well with my needs. There is no doubt that having independant advice provides a much better insight into the long term planning aspects and offers a much clearer insight into potential opportunities - it is very easy just to adopt the 'what you know' scenario rather than seeing the bigger picture.
