We needed a more 'hands on' IFA for our pensions and Isa's which haven't been reviewed for a fair while.

She has done exactly what we were hoping for, and in a fairly short time. She's balanced the contact so that, once we agreed with her recommendations, she's left us alone whilst keeping us informed. I'm impressed that she hasn't moved all our accounts, which is when we pay commission, just the ones that needed to move.

Someone who would find out our needs and circumstances and then, starting with a blank piece of paper, suggest a structure of our investments to suit the two of us.

I built up a substantial amount of funds during the first 30 + years of teaching using my spare income as well as my wife's income which we wanted to use to enhance our retirements. In 2002 when I retired as a Deputy Head from a large school in Hertfordshire and we moved to Woodhall Spa, I needed professional help / support with these quite substantial funds in order that I would feel confident that these funds would be safely and financially well invested. Fortunately I made a very good choice in contacting F H Manning of Horncastle and I was introduced to Claire Markham who has now looked after my investments for twenty years.

Totally. Claire has over these last twenty years built up full trust in the way that she has invested my funds which she has fully explained to me at every stage. We meet regularly to review how these investments are performing and change things if the need arises. These changes are in the main done as a result of the financial situation in the Market. Over the last years Claire has been excellent in looking after my investments and has added this year my substantial step father's investments to be safely invested as my step father at the age of 99 is at present in a Nursing Home and under my POA I am looking after his assets and have entrusted Claire to look after these investments & funds which Claire has done to my complete satisfaction .

I could not wished for a more professional, hard working, friendly financial advisor then Claire. After I had retired I had more time to think about making my money work for itself. Yes. My portfolio is now in a much better shape. We discuss switching investments and Claire explains why. We also discuss planning for the inevitable inheritance tax. Perhaps I would have liked to see my capital have grown a little more than it has, but to be fair, the financial markets have taken a beating over the last couple of years and who knows what I may have lost if I had tried to make my own investments and Claire had not been in charge of it.

I had previously had one good adviser, who retired, and one very poor, young ' whizz kid' who I could never get hold of when I needed to consult him and lost quite a lot of my money. I visited the company for a free first consultation and met Claire and her partner who discussed my aims and objectives. Claire was very approachable and followed the consultation up with some ideas which I liked, so I decided to go with it and see what happened.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes. Claire has recouped the money I lost with the second financial adviser and made more. I like the idea that I now have a more balanced portfolio and as I age in years, Claire can adapt this to my inheritance needs. I receive a report twice a year which is followed up by a face to face review when she visits me at home. We have a friendly chat about the portfolio when she makes suggestions for any changes and I feel she welcomes and considers my input. I know that she is easily contactable by telephone, email or private portal if I need to get in touch with her and would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone seeking a financial adviser.
What could they have done better?
I cannot think of anything. I understand that the last year or so has been a very difficult time for everyone financially, and some of the profits made will have been lost, but I am happy in the knowledge that Claire continues to monitor my portfolio in the background, waiting for better times ahead.

Having managed my financial affairs myself through investing in ISAs over a number of years I felt that, given their diminishing returns, it was time seek the professional advice of a financial adviser who could provide me with a wider perspective in terms of how my money could be invested to achieve a better return. Having known and sought the advice of David Platt over a number of years prior to his retirement FH Manning was my obvious first choice in appointing a financial adviser.
How has Claire Markham helped you?
During the three and a half years that Claire has been my financial adviser she has carried out an analysis of my personal finances and, through discussion in relation to the level of risk I was happy to accept, has produced a financial portfolio and explained the rationale which underpinned it. Within the annual period of investment Claire has reviewed the performance of my funds and made the necessary sale and purchase of funds accordingly and reported these changes to me. Throughout this process Claire has demonstrated her professionalism and expertise.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Given that Claire became my financial adviser at the time the UK voted to leave the EU following which Covid-19 became a worldwide issue, both of which created volatility within the markets in different ways, it would be unfair of me to be too judgemental in this respect. However, I consider that my target ie to see a return above inflation has to date, January 2021, been met. Throughout this period Claire has remained calm and reassuring and the returns on my investments have readdressed the effects of Brexit and Covid-19 and have been pleasing to note of late.
What could they have done better?
Some explanation in relation to performance and transaction of funds referred to within the Annual Review would be appreciated as opposed to just being reported on. For example: ‘Over the course of the year your portfolio has fallen by 7.2% ‘ ‘I recommend your Fidelity ISA is switched to the following......’ Such statements might raise the question as to why. Overall the service provided by FH Manning and Claire in particular is excellent and constitutes good value for money and I can recommend FH Manning and Claire without reservation.

I retired with a lump sum, over 20 years ago, and wanted to invest some of it for the future. I had a friend, I could trust, who recommended his financial adviser and when he was next in the area I asked if he would visit me also. I invested part of my lump sum into the products he recommended and watched them keenly, now I had time to spare. They did quite well and I was pleased. Eventually this financial adviser retired and my friend and I both found another one through attending a seminar. All sounded good, but it was a big company that ran it and our adviser was young and full of talk. Things did not go so well with the investments, plus I couldn't contact him when I needed to discuss a particular investment. Consequently I lost a lot of money on some investments he had recommended. I had recently joined an investment club, along with the friend, and we learned a lot about shares and investing, so alarm bells were beginning to ring for us both. I looked for another financial adviser who was local. I visited FH Manning's office and liked what I heard. The previous adviser had put me with products he got the biggest commission from. I felt I could trust FH Manning with my money and Claire Markham in particular.
How has Claire Markham helped you?
The initial meeting felt comfortable with Claire and we were able to discuss lots of things, such as my attitude to risk, different methods of payment. Claire was thorough in her research of my financial position, she made suggestions and we talked them through. I knew she was always approachable and open to suggestions. The personal financial report I receive every 6 months on my portfolio is very informative and interesting. Claire has also helped me with inheritance planning as well, which is useful.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes. By moving the money about, which was put in the wrong type of investment products by the previous financial adviser and then not watched, Claire has recouped the money and made more. I now have a more balanced portfolio and I know that Claire will suggest moving money about if she thinks it necessary. Although I follow the funds etc. myself and fully understand that markets change and I will lose money at times, as well as make it, on the whole Claire's recommendations have worked and she has made money for me. I can rest knowing that she will be following my portfolio and will contact me when and if necessary.

We have a number of pensions between us and are both in stable jobs but wanted to be fully aware of all of our options to allow us to make well informed financially prudent decisions as we move into the next 10 years of our life.

Given the interesting last few years in the stock market then I would say so. The investments have not gone down and have generally returned acceptable growth in a challenging environment
What could they have done better?
I am not sure many/ any service providers do this but it would be nice to have more regular news on the portfolio performance or maybe even an online portal to enable us to review at our leisure?
