The plans were all researched and a consolidated proposal was produced, which made life a lot easier for us.

Not yet. With the state of the world market post-Covid, it's no surprise that we haven't benefitted from a stellar performance, but I have confidence that we will in the coming years.

Maybe suggested a slightly broader global scope for investments, but I am not an expert in this field so it may not have been wise prior to Covid.

My wife and I was on the 'glide' down to retirement and was looking for an adviser to manage our several pension 'pots' accumulated over 40 years of working. We wanted to not only maximise our own income , but also provide for my wife , if I predeceased her and leave any balance remaining to my daughters , all in the most efficient way.

Alasdair was able to consolidate some of our pensions into one investment draw-down 'pot'. We were also able to start taking one pension earlier than we had expected and that we were also able to treat the remaining pensions in the most efficient manner. Alasdair produced for us some forecast of anticipated outcomes for various investment strategies and this allowed us to focus on our 'wants and needs' and plan our future financial with confidence.

We have been delighted with the outcome. All the transaction that we have undertaken have been performed very efficiently. Since we went for a more 'cautionary' investment strategy , we have be partly shielded to the volatility caused by covid.

A recent change in circumstances led me to require financial advice. I left a major Private Bank where I had worked for 31 years and simultaneously was looking for advice as to whether it was right to move my FS Bank pension. We worked through our finances, savings, outgoings and goals and came up with a plan for combining several pension plans. He set this up for us and in doing so uncovered a benefit I was unaware of.

Definitely. We have taken only the amount of tax free lump sum we needed (instead of all of it, as I had intended) and by combining taxable and tax-free drawdown we now have a very tax efficient income.

What could they have done better?

It would be picky to find fault in the way we were dealt with. I was not looking forward to having to appoint an advisor as I expected to be bamboozled with financial technobabble but Alasdair was very straightforward. He treated us like intelligent people and we didn't feel patronised or spoken down to. It is clear that Alasdair is working for a long-term relationship and so far that is what looks likely.

Alasdair initially took the time in a "getting to know you" meeting where he was able to assess my risk profile, income and asset position and my expenditure preferences. Alasdair has the great ability to make you feel very comfortable from the minute you step into the office with with his personal and friendly approach but at the same time, perfectly balances the professional and serious nature of financial planning. The fact that he carefully explained all the options and highlighted the pros and con , he was able to guide me in to making an informed judgement as to what was best in my circumstances was probably the most important thing that he did for me. In contrast, I am sure we have all had the experience where the adviser simply doesn't know enough about YOU and so can simply reel off standard advice which just isn't always applicable to your circumstances.

Yes , Alasdair has given excellent recommendations and the increased pension payments are in line with my expectations.

What could they have done better?

I can think of an example with the benefit of hindsight, where he maybe should have been more forceful with a suggestion he did make at the end of the first meeting - but then this is a 2 - way meeting and I should have perhaps have given it more thought at the time. It was dealt with at the next meeting anyway.

We have worked with Alasdair's company for some years.

How has Alasdair Walker helped you?

He made an excellent presentation to my employees on a new pension scheme we are transferring into. He was universally praised as clear, honest, persuasive and spoke to people in language that they fully understood.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

One employee who was very much against pensions as a concept certainly softened his attitude and may join the scheme. All others confirmed that they were happy with the scheme.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Hunter Aikenhead managed the company pension and because we were satisfied with the service from Alisdair, we thought he was the man we could trust and rely on to manage our affairs.

Explanations of details of drawdown systems were made understood from Alistdair which guided us to our decision to continue with the remainder of our invested funds.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

As Treasurer of a medium-sized charity I was aware that the Trustee Board had a duty of care to make prudent decisions regarding the investment of the charity's reserves. The Trustee Board lacked the knowledge and skills to undertake this task, so we appointed Alasdair to work with us.

How has Alasdair Walker helped you?

As an animal welfare charity, our Trustees had strong views on finding ethical investments for the charity's reserves. Alasdair worked with us to identify and define our investment profile within the context of our Strategic Plan. He was really excellent at breaking through the "jargon" and explaining investment issues and products in a clear manner that was easy to understand, even for those Trustees without a background in finance or investment.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Following Alasdair's advise, our investment portfolio matches our ethical requirements whilst providing us with the financial returns we were hoping for. We have experienced both a good income stream from the investments and also a healthy growth in the underlying value of our portfolio. We receive regular, clearly-worded reports on investment performance and Alasdair is always available to respond to queries and provide advice. He is always polite, professional and extremely pleasant in his approach and the Trustee Board have a high level of confidence in him and in the advice that he gives. We feel the charity is in very capable hands.

I cannot think of anything to include here as everything has been excellent!

Alasdair is very well organised, very knowledgeable and very personable. He maintains a good working relationship whilst also engaging with personal detail. He is both responsive and pro-active in the financial relationship and is welcoming of queries. He explains clearly and in depth and takes pride in delivering a quality service. His written reports are excellent and always follow directly from our meetings.

What could they have done better?

Alasdair seems to have a clear direction for himself professionally which has been apparent in the way that his practice has developed in the time that I have known him. He is a well-rounded practitioner who would appear to be able to reflect on his approach and make his own adjustments when and if necessary.
