I needed help and advice regarding issues with backdating contributions with my company’s pension scheme. It is not easy to decide who to trust when it comes to dealing with personal finances, but fortunately Sunny was strongly recommended by our mortgage advisor and proved to be the right person to help with the job.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Being self employed I knew that I needed some advice on how best to tackle the creation of my own private pension. Someone mentioned Sunny Sonpal to me and I'm glad I followed up the lead.

How has Sunny Sonpal helped you?

Over a couple of meetings Sunny quickly grasped what my insurance and long term retirements needs were devised an initial plan for me to follow and sat me down to discuss and agree. This included personal insurances, savings into a SIPP and later on mortgage advice. We met regularly two to three times a year to review the plan and makes adjustments if necessary but was always available on the phone if I needed some help in the short term. Him and his team have always been extremely efficient, friendly and professional.

Today I have a pension pot that has grown over the past 10 years over and above what I initially set as a goal, and continue to have full confidence in Sunny's advise and guidance to help me maintain my investments ahead of the curve.

My original personal pension contract ended & could not be extended.

I confess to being somewhat skeptical of Financial Advisors, however, as my pension contract came to an end I was forced to consider my options. Sunny picked up on my general enquiry, and I agreed to a meeting (still somewhat wary). However, with Sunny's genuine disposition and general interest in me as a person I was able to effectively engage with Sunny. His emphasis was on forward financial planning & covered a lot more than I had considered at that stage, which I fully appreciated. This was not a one off, as Sunny and his team keep in regular contact with reviews on the progress of the markets etc.

I was made redundant and needed advice on my pension, how to plan for the future. I also had several small pensions from previous employment's that needed to be bought together.

I wanted to liquidate a number of pensions to ensure that I had full control as have no children or spouse to pass a pension onto and i wanted a realistic view as to what my financial future looked like.

How has Sunny Sonpal helped you?

Sunny spent time with me to get to know me as an individual, understand my financial situation and my attitude to risk and assessed my financial future holistically. He enabled me to realise that my State and current employer pensions were sufficient to pay the everyday costs once my mortgage was paid, so my transferred pension fund was in essence disposable.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Definitely, even after the dramatic drop in the market in April, my portfolio has recovered well and Sunny has always been available to restore my confidence when needed. He is very honest in his communication and also incredibly knowledgeable and accurate.

What could they have done better?

I would like to know more about tracking from the point of my original investment and be able to graph this? I do however know how to run valuation reports.

The advisor I had after my husband’s death gave up the practice. I found a replacement who then moved to London. I wanted someone who was more local and who I felt was able to manage my finances in a more cohesive way.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had three pensions and wanted to cash these in so as to take advantage of higher income growth through to my retirement and early access to tax-free 'draw downs'.

How has Sunny Sonpal helped you?

Sunny took time to understand my needs and attitude to risk - this was important, being so close to retirement, there is no time to recover from bad decision-making - before introducing me to a number of investment options and suggesting what would best meet my needs. Sunny helped me understand what 'help' I am entitled to from HMRC.

I believe so. The former pension money that was invested on my behalf by Sunny and his team was growing nicely prior to the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown. Although my fund declined substantially at/around the onset of lockdown, Sunny was keen to assure me that it would come back, that I was to 'hold my nerve' and, just three months later, my fund is right back where it was before lockdown and I have every confidence in Sunny and his team to see this growth continue.

Initially I was looking at various insurances with a local company and during a financial review it was suggested that Sunny take a look at various final salary pensions I had.

Sunny explained the pros & cons of transferring final salary pensions and I agreed for him to go ahead with obtaining some valuations. Having received the valuations with further discussions I agreed to go ahead with the transfers.

Pre the covid pandemic everything was performing over and above expectation, since the pandemic and the financial downturn things are now recovering and seem to be performing as they should.
