I needed help to move a final salary pension

John helped me move my pension, his honest opinion was I shouldn't as it was a very good pension but I was adamant I wanted it moved. Still telling me not to I still went ahead as it was an option I wanted

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, John worked hard to do the work as one of the pension companies was very slow and he worked to get a satisfactory result for me

To be honest there was nothing he could have done better for me

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had to get advice from a financial adviser to be able to transfer a DB pension

How has John Kentigern-Fox helped you?

He was very professional and advised me that it was not a good idea to move it from a DB scheme to a DC as the DB final salary was a cast iron pension. Taking his advice and recommendations I still believed it was a better option for me. He proceeded and I have now moved it

Yes I have.

What could they have done better?

Nothing, as this was in the covid pandemic I think he did an excellent job.

John has been amazing from the start, he has given me expert advice which has gone over and above what I expected. The portal service the company use is secure so there is no chance of documents or information going astray. He has ensured the process was efficient and clear with the ability to ensure I was fully across every step before I took it. He has been proactive so I’ve been ahead of the curve in all aspects of my pension transfer. Needless to say I would definitely recommend him.

John undertook a thorough review and documented all of the information that I required in order for my wife and I to make the decision about retirement and what was the best action to take with existing company pension schemes. John was more than thorough and provided very detailed and accurate information.

We had decided to sell our company and take advantage of the latest changes to pension regulations enacted by the government. We both have final salary pensions from previous employers but had no knowledge of how to have them valued or what their benefits might be.

How has John Kentigern-Fox helped you?

First of all John listens; he took great care to understand our personal circumstances such as other investments; our plans for expenditure, our income needs and what we might want to spend in the future. John was very clear in his explanations; he got to the core of each question we had and explained the terminology surrounding pensions so it was understandable. The most important advice related to the pros and cons of leaving a defined benefit scheme. Our circumstances are a little unusual; civil partners with no dependants; so he tailored his advice to match our wishes.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes; documentation was clear to understand. We can now 'retire' knowing that we are sufficiently well funded for the future. Everything John recommended was relevant and applicable to our circumstances. In a way i wish we'd contacted John 2 years ago; we might well have been able to retire earlier!.

What could they have done better?

Nothing a all. He has communicated cleanly, clearly and precisely with us and with our IFA; Geoff Cardno, who is dealing with our privately funded pensions. Their careful and professional coordination between themselves and with us, has been much appreciated.

As a retired person in need of an income, John has proved to be excellent in providing this for me.His advice on investments has allowed me to live comfortably. His planning for easing the burden of capital gains tax means that there is no longer the possibility of my family having to pay a large sum in tax on my death. We meet about twice a year at my house to discuss general finance planning which iincorporates my attitude to risk and return. He then advises me on the possible options and makes recommendations using his laptop to access instantly web available information. John also has been crucial in helping me with tax returns - taking out the hassle of form filling and is working towards a more simplified portfolio which is less tax dependant.

A more planned timetable of when we meet and to allow more time for action on my part when deadlines need to be achieved
