What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was approaching retirement and had a pension savings in a number of Defined Contribution (DC) schemes as well as a significant amount in a Defined Benefit (DB) scheme. I was seeking advice on how best to manage these sources of retirement income to allow me to enjoy a reasonable standard of living well into the future.

How has Adam Walkom helped you?

He set up a drawdown fund to consolidate the amounts in the various DC schemes, reviewed the DB scheme and advised that it would be better to recieve income from the scheme rather than cash it in. Also, a Section 32 Bond was offering good annuity value and to take the income from it.

Yes they have. So far the investment funds have performed better than various sector bench marks.

Perhaps greater knowledge of implications of public sector (NHS) pension scheme impacts on the State Pension provisions.

I needed to sort out a rag-bag of old pension plans plus saved cash into a coherent plan to maximise income in upcoming retirement.

He sorted out the transfer of DC pension assets and some cash into a Prufund self-invested personal pension, and set up an S&S ISA for the other saved cash, and over the next four years advised on transferring the cash into the SIPP subject to the maximum allowance for tax recovery.

Given the events in the interim, the performance of the Prufund SIPP has been exceptional compared to near peers, and the ISA investments were adjusted in a timely fashion to minimise bond exposure successfully.

On 3 separate occasions I have had a reason to seek advice of a financial adviser: - to help my father to understand an investment taken out many years previously and guidance as to present investment needs; - a chat for my husband to understand pension options being offered and guidance in choosing the correct option for us; and - investments to provide a pension for our children.

Helped my father achieve an investment more suited to his needs - coming to his house as my father had mobility issues. Happy to chat about the options drawing of a pension was offering my husband; we felt much clearer in our understanding and confident of making the correct choice for us. Listened to our idea of wanting to provide a pension for our children and helped us to set up 3 x investments to achieve this aim, and suggested the pension provider for our children and set it up for them. Always quick to reply to emails we might send in order to clarify our understanding of something.

We acted on Adam's advice in the first two instances and been very happy with the results so far. The pension investments for our children have just been set up so too early to say if we have seen the outcome we are hoping for, but I see no reason why it shouldn't be realized.

What could they have done better?

Little bit of a problem (quickly overcome) in setting up the children's pensions, which perhaps Adam should have known about from the outset as presumably he's recommended the particular pension provider before.

A change in my employment circumstances highlighted the need to consolidate my four Pension Pots and seek expert advice on how to improve my current ISA/Savings and investment portfolio.

I received excellent expert advice from Adam, who consolidated all my Pension Pots into my current Company Pension Scheme (Aegon) and moved my main ISA Pot over to ASSET LINK to improve % performance. My recent Annual Review focused on improving my investment / Pension fund by moving to medium Risk as opposed to 'conservative/cautious'.

Not much more. The speed of the move from my old to my new provider took some time, more than I anticipated. In the end this was mainly due to the slack work done by the old provider. Not much Adam could do with that, however he speed up all the elements in the procedure he had controlled over, which was very good.

How has Adam Walkom helped you?

I can't really comment, unfairly, on value for money as I have not undertaken much research in terms of comparison and, as yet, cannot see the outcome from the investments suggested. Nonetheless, my decisions to proceed, and to recommend Adam, are based on the fact that he has been entirely reliable, approachable, understanding, flexible, realistic and supportive in helping understand my current investment goals and needs, both in the short and longer terms. I particularly like the fact that an annual review is built in to assess progress.

What could they have done better?

A comparison of fees and charges up front would be useful, though I suspect some people would prefer to investigate this for themselves in any case.
