Hi Sam, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, I really appreciate it. I’m pleased to hear that you feel the advice has been clear and transparent, and even more so that the outcome has been better than you were expecting. Receiving an inheritance is an important moment, so it’s good to know you felt supported in making the right decisions. It’s also great that you feel confident you’re on track and that everything we’ve communicated has been easy to understand; that’s something I place a lot of importance on. As always, if anything comes up between our reviews, just get in touch. Thanks again, Sam. DavidReview

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
Sale of our house allowed us an investment opportunity.
How has David Langley helped you?
Facilitated the movement of our pensions from one provider to another. Investigated and recovered and old dormant work pension. Created a strategy of investment for pensions and investments that suited our circumstances. Advised on inheritance tax and long-term retirement plans.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Yes.
What could they have done better?
Slight sight loss of the original investment amount vs where we are at now as it is nice to see where we have come from, to where we are now, but this has been corrected and explained to our absolute satisfaction.
David:
Hi Charlie, Thanks very much for the review, I really appreciate you taking the time to share such detailed feedback. I’m pleased to hear you’re happy with how things have come together, particularly around consolidating your pensions, tracking down the old workplace scheme, and putting a longer‑term plan in place for retirement and inheritance planning. Thank you as well for flagging the point about being able to see where the original investment started. I’m glad we were able to go back over this and get everything clear and explained to your satisfaction, that understanding is important. It’s been great working with you and Rae, and I value the open way we keep things under review as circumstances and priorities change. I look forward to continuing to work with you and keeping the plan on track as things evolve. All the best DavidReview

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
My money was invested with another provider previously. I changed to Bluewealth as they provided clear guidance and understanding David took time in listening to me and my future goals. He explained every aspect clearly. David is a wonderful example of a great adviser with enormous experience in both financial advice and care. I can't recommend Bluewealth enough.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?
After an initial attempt to sort our finances just before Covid we found that our financial advisors had failed to initiate our instructions after 2 years and nothing had been sorted out. We contacted David at Bluecoat to help us to unravel this mess and plan our best way forward. We felt frustrated and quite disillusioned with financial planning as we had thought we had put a plan in place but nothing was done. We were in the 10th year of our hospitality business and were interested in selling our business and working towards an early retirement where we could run off to the wilds of Scotland.
How has David Langley helped you?
Firstly, David gathered all of our paperwork and historical documents from a variety of different pensions over the years. We did manage to get a buyer for our business so we also had some capital that we wanted to make sure would work for us. Bluecoat consolidated our pensions (apart from a local authority one) and advised us about the best use of our capital directing us to max our pensions for the year and we also wanted to pay off a chunk of our mortgage. David provided a reality check for us as he outlined proposals to support us in our aim to retire early. This involved mapping out a 3 year proposal and a 5 year proposal and providing us with clear visual data to help us understand the overall trajectory. We had clear targets for employment for our final working years along with pension contributions. These were manageable but ultimately really not fun. We returned to the workplace after running our own business for 10 years and this felt very much like we were on a treadmill - money in and money out; eat, sleep, work and repeat. We are not the most patient of people so we again turned up at Davids door to review our plan. The new plan involved us moving our ideas forward. With Davids help we managed to cost up selling our house in the South East, and rather than downsizing locally, we would make the move to Scotland early. With the profits we were able to provide Bluecoat with the 5 years’ worth of the pension contributions that we had committed to, saving in a lump sum rather than slowly building this through 3-5 years of working. We also bought a cheap mobile home for us to live in while the timeframes for both selling this our home and buying a new place in Scotland didn't work particularly well. We have given ourselves a 12-month sabbatical (or pre pension gap-year!) to build our new life in the Highlands of Scotland. We intend to use this time, plus additional savings from sale of house, to support us during this period and also contribute to a smaller sustainable and creative enterprise/business. David has ensured that our capital is being put to use with ISA's and Pension contributions while we are able to focus on funding our new life.
Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?
Our plans have not really followed the traditional route as we feel the world has much more to offer us and, despite heading towards retirement, we also feel we have more to do. Both Bob and I felt quite trapped following the sale of our business and being in paid employment and it was incredibly empowering to be able to get the expert support and advice from David that enabled us to be a little more creative and change our plan to something that suits us as people rather than an ‘off the shelf’ plan. Currently we are living in our fabulous mobile home, a 1989 Talbot Express Pilote (held together with good faith and gaffer tape) in Moray, on the north east coast of Scotland. We are having the best time, beautiful walks, stunning skies and getting to know our locality -, we are residents in waiting. Our new home will be ready for us early December and we can’t wait to begin our ‘The Good Life’. David has been an amazing cheerleader for us throughout this process. He listened carefully to what we needed and was thorough and kept us informed throughout. When we felt the first route wasn’t working, he reworked our plan. While we are aware we are taking a risk, (we still have to support ourselves, after our gap year, before our pension drops through in 2029, but we feel this risk has been mitigated to an extent with the support of Blue Coat and David. So far, we are totally on track with all of our plans, the pension is doing its work and our ISA’s are ensuring we are taking advantage of tax efficiencies. We have the funds going forward and we are excited and inspired about our future – I guess life actually starts at 58 years ?
What could they have done better?
This definitely has us scratching our head because the service that we have received from David has been totally right for our needs. Having arrived at Davids door feeling pretty disillusioned with financial advisors we have been very impressed with the wealth management that David has put in place for us. We have really appreciated Davids positive approach and it has given us the courage to follow our own ambitions.
David:
Thank you so much, Vanessa, for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review. It’s been a real privilege to work with you and Bob on shaping a plan that reflects your ambitions and lifestyle rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. I’m delighted that the strategy we developed together has given you the confidence to take bold steps towards your dream life in Scotland. Your creativity and determination have made this journey inspiring, and I’m pleased that Bluecoat could provide the clarity and structure to support those decisions. Please know that I’m always here if you need to review or adjust anything as your plans evolve. Wishing you both every success and happiness as you settle into your new home and embrace this exciting chapter.
