What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I "inherited" Sean following a takeover of the original company I was dealing with (if I recall correctly - it was over 10 years ago now). I needed my various pensions organised and amalgamated under one roof and some initial investment and retirement planning. He assessed my attitude to risk so that he could position my investments accordingly.

How has Sean Gilbert helped you?

Sean has provided me with excellent advice, particularly over the the last year or so. What I really like about him is he is extremely pleasant but above all clearly knowledgeable as one would expect on the financial markets and how best to invest and plan for retirement. What I also liked was how he addressed financial planning and taxation to best support retirement and inheritance tax implications (also asking potentially awkward but necessary questions in the event of an untimely early death!). Above all I was left feeling very confident I was well taken care of.

I had a few different pension pots from previous employers that I wanted bundled together. Also, more importantly, I didn't feel that they were getting reviewed and looked after properly and this is the main reason for me looking for a financial advisor.

Initially Sean got me and my wife through for an informal chat about my plans for the future, the age I'm planning to retire, my attitude to risk levels etc. Sean then explained the different pensions on offer, drawdown, annuities, future markets - all this was explained so that we understood clearly what my choices were.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes, the pension pots have been bundled together without any problems for me. Sean had a few difficulties with my previous pension provider, but nothing he couldn't handle. I now have my pension pot invested at a risk level I'm happy with. More importantly for me though, they are now being reviewed and properly looked after, no matter what happens with the market. This gives me the confidence to look forward to the future, and not wonder if my pot is relatively safe and actually working for me. It really is a weight off my shoulders.

Not much to be honest, everything went smoothly, and Sean kept me up to date about the pension transactions and any details that he felt that I needed to know.

Explained the options open to us and gave comprehensive advice on making investments. Showed us examples of the performance of stocks and shares over previous years and an indication of how our investment may perform. Made it clear that they can go up as well as down, and if this was something we wanted to consider, as a long term investment, it would probably be the most lucrative in the current financial climate where interest rates are so low. Gave us the confidence through his knowledge and advise to proceed with investing.

We have only recently invested so it is too soon really to make a judgement, but the initial indications are good.
