What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had considerable savings that I wanted to make use of along with a significant pension pot. Having never sought independent advice previously, I decided now was the time to seek a professional opinion to ensure I was doing the right thing with my money and my future.

dean took time to chat through my circumstances and understand my aspirations for the future. He then took time to compare my existing plan with some of the key differences to a SIPP helping me to identify some key drivers that would allow me to make that decision.

After 25 years with my former employers, it was clear that my pension had become stagnant and actually wasn't going to deliver what I had hoped. A key driver for me was that I wanted my pension to form part of my estate and go to my spouse and children after my death. I hadn't appreciated that my existing pension would only have given my wife 50% and then would have ceased upon my death. My existing pension growth was also capped at 2%pa so I felt that I was comfortable in taking on more risk for the potential of higher rewards.

I learned that patience is required when co-ordinating a number of existing policies as you are in the hands of your current investment company to provide information and the process of analysing this, within the stringent regulations, is not a quick one. Dean made me aware of this but I still found the process protracted. I'm not sure what more Dean could have done to improve this.
