As first time buyers my partner and I didn't have a clue where to start or what the whole process of buying a house involved. There is so much advice online, some of it contradictory, and it was so confusing! After getting a disappointing "quote"/AIP from our bank last summer, not having the time to go into different banks individually, and viewing for 3 months with no success, we decided to engage Mark's services. Mark is very knowledgeable and has been incredibly helpful and re-assuring throughout, answering all my silly questions and panicked calls quickly and professionally. He managed to secure us the best available rate for a 10% deposit, right in the height of the Covid-19 crisis, when most lenders were either withdrawing high LTV products, limiting them, or putting lots of conditions, and went above and beyond to do so, logging in before working hours to key our application through. He also advised us on mortgage payment protection/life cover and contents insurance, finding us the best deal to meet our needs within our limited budget rather than pushing the most expensive. Overall super happy with service we received, we felt Mark really did have our best interests at heart and really took the stress out of it all, worth every penny and more!

Yes, we were able to secure a great 5-year fixed rate product and a higher loan. Getting more for our money means we have been able to afford a really great property that ticks all of our boxes without having to compromise too much and without stretching our budget too thinly.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I used Mark initially 2 years ago when I needed to take a mortgage for my new home. I have never used a broker before, but as it was a new home and I needed a specialist mortgage, went with Mark (Via lighthouse) as this was recommend through my trade union. My 2 year fix was up recently (2019) and I got in touch with Mark. I was so pleased with the service last time, I didn't hesitate using him again.

How has Mark Walker helped you?

Mark is very personable and knowledgeable. He listened to what I wanted to do, which included borrowing more to clear debt and what terms I wanted for the mortgage. He then provided some options and advice. This was never forced and he allowed me the time to reflect on what I wanted to do and he then sought out some mortgage products for me to consider. The choice was totally mine but I had lots of options from Mark - short term fix, longer term fix and borrowing a little or more. I was able to look at all these options and see what was best for me!

Yes, moved to a product that I couldn't find on a comparison website that me and my Wife's individual circumstances. Mark also ensured our life protection was updated and managed all the admin. Excellent service and well worth the money.

Mark was great! We hadn’t got the best rate on our existing mortgage so he looked at the varying costs between porting our existing mortgage or taking out a new mortgage and ending the current mortgage.
