I required professional advice to ensure that my ‘pension pot’ together with other assets would be invested in such a way so as to ensure ‘peace of mind’ in retirement.

Ray took time to understand the overall family situation and aspirations both personal and financial. He presented various options having regard to our attitude to risk and aims. He uses a financial modelling to assist with cash flow projections which helps present a full picture of our needs

This is very much an ongoing situation with regular reviews but yes, we feel more comfortable than previously.

In our particular situation, this was very much a collaboration and I am not sure that I can think of a better approach than that taken.

I was just starting in my career. At the time I was too busy and inexperienced to properly maintain my savings and investments.

How has Ray Rastall helped you?

Basically Ray gave me extremely good advice as what to do with my savings. His experience with investments allowed me to focus more on my career and not on investigating all savings options for which I was too inexperienced.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

Ray was and is my only adviser in the UK. We first met in 1984 when I became a client. In 1998 my wife and I left the Uk for the USA and have lived here ever since. In 2017 I became elegible for one of my pensions that Ray had introduced me too. If it was not for his services, expertise and ability I would not be in the foirtunate position I am in now. He had to overcome a name change ( I was once a budding actor when I took out the policy), became an USA citizen and lived with a USA address for 19 years. No small feat! However, after months of phone calls, emails and sheer persistance in his wanting to look after a client, albeit, an old client that had not generated any income for him in over 19 years, he achieved the impossible. I cannot talk highly enough of his expertise and his character. If I was still in the UK and looking for an adviser, I would be "all in" with Mr Rastall!.

Ray is a very open, honest and helpful adviser. With regard to my personal circumstances the time wasn't right for using the full services offered, However his advise during our consultation was very useful. I would definitely go back to see Ray if and when my circumstances change.

Ray thoroughly investigates and documents our needs, existing plans and strategies and very importantly our attitude towards risk. He is generally very professional in his approach and works hard to ensure that our portfolio of investments is fully tailored to our needs, even though that creates more work, rather than trying to fit us into a standard portfolio. He listens carefully to our requirements and is very diligent (with the help of his colleagues at Foster Denovo) in ensuring that he meets them. The annual reviews he provides are particularly useful in ensuring that we keep the portfolio performing to the optimum. He provides sound tax management advice - nothing that pushes the envelope, but always sound and solid steps to make the maximum use of personal allowances etc. His fee structure is always transparent and we're happy that we're consistently getting value for money when we take a macro view of the performance of our portfolio after charges and tax.

What could they have done better?

We don't have improvements to suggest. We've been very happy with the service we've received from Ray and indeed we've recommended him to a number of our friends who are now taking financial advice from him.

Once a year in August Ray visits me to go through my pension plan and investments. The ups and downs of the individual investments are discussed and alternative options are put on the board for consideration. He has enough years experience behind him to explain the positive and negative outcome of other similar situations to mine which helps to make an educated decision. I have known Ray for more than 20 years and he has always given excellent advice. I receive a birthday email each year and email updates throughout the year if there are any tax changes etc that will affect my pension plan either way. Alll in all a splendid fellow.

Ray is very good at being able to explain technical financial matters in laymen's language. He does not sell but consults by engaging in a conversation in order to elicit my and my family's aspirations and needs and then convert them into sound financial advice. I was especially impressed with the financial/ retirement modelling which he conducted with us in order to make us think in detail about our present income and expenditure and extrapolate this into the future. This really helped us to focus upon how to plan our retirements.

When I contacted Ray I did wonder what reaction I would get as I only had a very small pension pot to invest (Under £40,000). From the very outset the welcome I received and the advice I was given was excellent. Ray did not rush anything and was at great pains to explain every thing to me. Initial contact was by phone and I got the impression that nothing was too much trouble for him. He obtained various quotes to purchase an annuity with my pot and in subsequent meetings at his office he continued in the way he had started in that sufficient time was allowed to explain everything and answer all my questions. I subsequently purchased an annuity through him and would have no hesitation in recommending him to friends, family or aquaintances

I have to say that having spent several years in the insurance industry (but not in like and pensions) I could appreciate the manner in which Ray went about his business. I cannot think of anything that Ray could have done better

Ray created a financial strategy for my wife and I as I approach retirement. His advice was very professional and thorough and he made the process interesting and enjoyable with his personable style. The initial meeting was about goals and aspirations as well as data gathering of our assets. The strategy report was created which included a narrative summary, recommendations for actions needed and some scenarios from a financial "what if" model. We had a further meeting to discuss the report and to use the software model to look at what would happen in different circumstances. A very useful process and good interaction with Ray. I was coming up to my 65th birthday and, with a younger wife who wants to retire early, it seemed like a good idea to get a financial health check and forecast for the future. I had previously taken both financial advice and pension SIPP advice from Ray and so he was an easy choice. The result of Ray's work was both incisive and the quality was excellent. He was patient with us and both of us had all our questions answered putting our minds at rest. He manages to simplify quite complex issues. I will be using Ray for similar advice as the years move on.
