Change of circumstances due to retirement and a need to overhaul savings and investments after several years of unchanged investment

We met several times initially to get a clear understanding of the investment environment and so that Heddwyn could assess our savings and investment requirements. Following this we were fully supported to consider, weigh and then make investment decisions. Subsequently we have been and are able to follow progress on line and to review progress with Heddwyn on an annual basis.

Investments and savings were an area in which we had limited experience. Heddwyn helped us to appreciate where progress towards a successful outcome could be achieved. Even in a fairly challenging investment environment over the last year or so we can assess this progress positively and are pleased with the results.

What could they have done better?

We are very satisfied with the service that Heddwyn has provided especially over the last year facing the challenges of the Covid pandemic. Although it is not currently possible to meet with Heddwyn face to face, the alternative options, in particular Zoom meetings, have been used very successfully to communicate, discuss and consider investment advice.

When I retired I decided to withdraw my pension and review my investments. I researched quite extensively online and felt that the services provided by Heddwyn met my needs.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We needed to find a home for our savings when interest rates in savings accounts dropped to historically low levels.

How has Heddwyn James helped you?

Heddwyn ensured that we put our savings in bonds which would reflect our views on risk and where the investments should be made. He gave us a considerable amount of advice but then our circumstances changed and we needed the money to buy a house which we renovated. He completely understood and gave us useful advice on mortgages. When the money became available again, we went back to him because we were so impressed with his advice and patience.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

We are very satisfied with the bonds that Heddwyn found for us. They have kept our funds safe in turbulent times and proved flexible when we needed money out for a house move.

What could they have done better?

I don't think that there is much - Heddwyn has been available when we needed him. He has given us good advice and we never feel rushed into investments. He takes time to understand our needs and, when we moved from the area, we have continued our relationship with him because we have established this understanding and trust.

Heddwyn explains everything in a way that 'the man in the street' can understand and if you still don't understand he will explain again until you do, his patient, polite and has a moral standing, which is difficult to find these days. We first met Heddwyn James in 2000 when our accounts with the Woolwich were moved to Barclays in the merger. He advised us about our options at the time. We found him to be a man who didnÂ’t patronize, talk over our heads or brandish his superior knowledge, but met us where we were in our understanding. We considered him to be a financial advisor we could trust to look out for our best interests, not just how much he could make out of it. When we had to take important financial decisions in 2002 we knew who we would consult, and his advice since then has proved to be excellent over the intervening years. He is a family man, with a good sense of humour and is easy to talk to. We would recommend him to anyone who feels bogged down in the current financial situation and who needs impartial but understanding advice.

His knowledge and understanding are excellent and we have absolute faith in any advice or guidance he provides. What could they have done better?

Sometimes a little difficult to reach on his mobile telephone, but always replies to messages left for him on the answer phone. He needs to keep his telephone on when involved with other customers so that he can give a short text or call to inform the incoming caller that he has received the message.

As power of Attorney for both my parents, I had to invest the money from the sale of their house to pay for their future care. It was essential that the money had to be invested somewhere as safe as is possible in today’s financial climate, but also to give some income.
