What I recorded for 2023 is the same. Kathryn takes the time to explain the jargon and situations that I dont understand that impact on the pension plan. Kathryn provides clear advice having looked at a number of alternative options and asks for your thoughts without pushing you in any particular direction. We looked at the pros and cons to come up with a conclusion for the next year forward. Situations change so I look forward to the review next year.

A number of years ago as approaching my 55th birthday I decided to leave my own workplace of the last 26 years and there was an accrued pension sitting with them that I decided would need to be the bulk of any future income I would receive when I retired. Having no financial experience in relation to pensions and investments I sought professional advice and thus appointed myself a financial advisor.

How has Kathryn Tomlinson helped you?

Funds transferred from my company pension to a Standard Life portfolio have been well managed and in general solid returns have been experienced over the period. Kathryn has been responsible for setting up these investments according to my perceptive of risk and my personal financial needs versus out-goings etc . Kathryn has conducted conversations and discussions with myself to ascertain my attitude to risk and drafted my risk profile accordingly to suit my needs. The whole process has been frank and open with good and constant lines of communications always open between both parties which is fully appreciated by me.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

In general, yes, obviously the last 12 months have seen a slight downturn in funds growth and for the first time seen a significant decline but no to the point of causing me undue concerns. I was fully aware for the start that there is always an element of risk in any investment, and this was also fully explained to me by Kathryn in our initial and indeed conversations and reviews. I am also fully alive to the unique and un-settling events in the world which are currently occurring and that this had to have some effect of my interests. However overall, the outcome has been positive, and I continue to have complete faith in the investment decisions that have been are continuing to be made on my behalf by Kathryn .

What could they have done better?

Nothing really all good up till now .

Katheryn guided me through the financial process, helping with budgeting, providing projections and possible scenarios, advising on whether to release equity from the pension fund. She was instrumental in arranging the disposition of my resources to minimise tax liability and after discussing my risk preferences presenting various investment strategies. In all respects Katheryn's communication and responsiveness has been outstanding.

Any outcome i was hoping for has been altered significantly by the war in Ukraine and the global financial situation. Katheryn discussed beforehand the possibility of market decline before i invested and provided scenarios showing how my investment could recover. I have discussed the current situation with her several times and will soon have my yearly investment review. the is nothing Katheryn could have done to foresee the current situation but i feel that my chances of limiting the effects on my income are very much improved with Katheryn to guide me.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I was coming to state pension age and wanted advice on my second work pension and also advice on investments. It was also important to me that I had a female IFA. Although I was very happy with my previous, male IFA, my circumstances had changed and I did not want to risk being 'talked down to'.

How has Kathryn Tomlinson helped you?

She was very patient and understanding. Spent time with me to get a picture of mu current situation and what I wanted for the future and never rushed me to make decisions.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

So far, yes.

What could they have done better?

Given the circumstances we were both working under ie Covid, no there is nothing she could have done better.
