,he reasons were twofold. I now live perrmenently in Yorkshire,so it was beneficial to move my financial dealings to a local business. the other reason was that my financial advisor whom i used to use while resident in Scotland decided to retire.

Barry was recommened to me by a friend, to whom i mentioned that i was looking for a financial advisor. When i first met Barry i was impressed by his manner and his personal interest in ensuring, through a long conversation, what i thought i required and what he could offer me in the form of advice in all the areas that i required.

Barry really ‘pulled out all the stops’ to help me. As the economic climate was rapidly changing, he arranged for a pensions transfer specialist to review my case and make a recommendation within a few days of our first meeting. Barry then selected the appropriate portfolios for my pension pot once the markets had stabilised. It would have been to my financial detriment had Barry not taken these actions. As I have taken early retirement I feel Barry is very mindful of the need to ensure I will have an adequate income in the future.

Yes the outcome is exactly as I had hoped. I was able to access part of my tax free sum. And I have ongoing flexibility that I lacked with my previous pension provision.

What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

SMG FS manage our group pension scheme (of which I am a member) and Barry has been directly advising members on this diligently for some years. I have also sought and been given his sound financial advice independently on occasions regarding personal insurance. On this occasion I needed advice on releasing cash from my pension fund @ 55 and options for drawing down additional sums in the future while protecting my retirement investment.

How has Barry Orr helped you?

Barry voiced his concerns on taking cash from my pension fund and clearly explained his reasoning behind these. While I understood his concerns I was still keen to release at least a relatively small amount of cash as a gift to my son for his 21st birthday in the short term. I also felt that it would be important for me to be able to draw down additional funds in the future before retirement to cover foreseen or unforeseen cash requirements (e.g. mortgage shortfall). Barry did his research and due diligence before presenting a proposition that allowed for releasing cash for the gift to my son and transferring my fund balance to an alternative "draw down" scheme that provided more flexibility for additional cash withdrawals while protecting my investment into retirement.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

I have accepted Barry's proposal and while things are still "in the works" I fully expect everything to pan out to my satisfaction. There were some costs associated with the transfer to the new scheme but these were relatively minimal and acceptable under the circumstances.

What could they have done better?

In a past review I suggested that there could be better regular communication with respect to the plans I have in place, other plans/services that may be of interest to me or relevant financial info in general rather than just a once a year review. While this small shortcoming is still applicable, I feel that 5 stars across the board are well deserved.
