What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I needed to consolidate 4 Pensions (one of which was a Final Salary Scheme) into my own SIPP, obtaining investment advice for the SIPP, raise a Mortgage and buy a House, using the Tax Free Lump Sum to provide the Deposit.

How has Shannon Currie helped you?

Shannon Currie and Phil Billingham were instrumental in achieving the above, combined with their very efficient and friendly staff. They handled some complex matters effectively, efficiently and timely.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

It is still ongoing as it is early days but I am delighted with how it is all progressing.

What could they have done better?

We had a fundamental misunderstanding at the start of our relationship, due to the way the Risk Questionnaire was structured. I would suggest the format is reviewed to handle cases such as mine which is somewhat unusual. This would avoid time being wasted at the outset.

When we first met, Shannon quickly established the type of service that I needed, and has provided very sound advice about financial planning. I receive friendly, non-pushy regular reminders of opportunities that I could take advantage of should I be in the situation to, for example, maximise my ISA allowance. The newletters that Perceptive also send are very informative.

What could they have done better?

All the constructive suggestions that I have fed back have been taken on board. There is nothing to raise here.

We received good initial advice and were rewarded with well-chosen investments which have matured extremely well. We have regular review meetings in our own home, and receive a summary later of the points discussed and conclusions reached. This gives us confidence in all future investments with Shannon and the Perceptive Planning team.

What could they have done better?

Some of the analytical information we receive is a bit "heavy" and probably a bit too technical but , as Mr Churchill once said, "we are still ignorant, but better informed"

We are very happy to do so as our experience of the firm and its personnel has been wholly positive. They took us on when our financial affairs had become quite tangled. Bad investments had been made and even the good ones proved difficult to transfer. Perceptive Planning and its directors not only managed to provide clarity and transparency where there had been confusion, but also pro-actively encouraged and supported us in seeking redress going far beyond their paid for services in doing so. Their mainstream advice and management of our finances has been brilliant in difficult times, always seeking to anticipate developments without involving us in high risk. As a result our finances have developed in a way which more than meets our needs. Their helpful and pro-active approach however has never been intrusive and has always sought to involve us in all important decisions. Given all this we would give the firm five stars on :- Quality of service (always helpful and responsive) Quality of advice (which has consistently paid off for us) Value for money ( more than we have paid for, as indicated above) The overall service has also been at this level. Our experience has been entirely positive in all respects so we can hardly think of any improvements to suggest. Long may they continue as they are, whilst adapting and keeping up with future developments of course!

How has Shannon Currie helped you?

Shannon is very good at keeping me informed and up to date. She is excellent at explaining complicated issues and is never patronising.She takes the time to understand one's appetite for risk and to advise accordingly. She was fantastic in sorting out issues arising from the transfer of my investments from a previous adviser and in pointing out issues which I would not have thought about. If things haven't gone according to plan she will be upfront about this. She comes up with new ideas to discuss and seems on top of all the frequent changes affecting the financial world. She does thorough due diligence on providers and if not satisfied she will advise against making the particular investment. Shannon also replies very fast to any query raised on the phone or by email. She also works well with other professional advisers.

What could they have done better?

Sometimes the staff can be a bit bureaucratic or go into too much detail about the mechanics for getting something done. This is however preferable to having too little information!

She organised the transfer of our investments from our previous financial adviser with efficiency and tenacity, faced with great reluctance and foot-dragging by the previous firm. Her fact-finding about us and our attitude to risk was carried out with tact and perceptiveness. Her subsequent advice about investment decisions seems to us to have been sensibly cautious and relevant to our personal circumstances. She has been proactive in getting us to address problems and prompt in answering our questions. She seems to have gathered round her a group of friendly and efficient staff who have been able to help in Shannon's absence. All this has been carried out at a very reasonable cost to us.

She has an enabling but sensible and realistic attitude when asked for advice on my optional spending ideas and is easy to contact to speak to personally. She does not pretend to be able to outguess the market and her investment advice reflects that.

I have used several advisers over a period of 28 years and some were sloppy in their reporting ,whether it be quarterly, half yearly or annually. Many would rely heavily on the glossy sales output from potential investment opportunities and not go in depth to establish whether or not the investment met my particular risk profile. The lack of good advice left me with heavy losses after the financial collapse in 2008. I was more than glad to move my portfolios to Perceptive Planning in 2012 and I have never regretted that decision. Shannon Currie,s approach to investment is very much in line with your risk profile.The financial reporting is first class. In my case in writing half yearly, and annually around the table. Ascentric is used to look after the day to investment numbers and can be watched by the investor on a daily basis if you wish to do that. The Perceptive team has been growing year by year and following the addition of Phil Billingham as Operations Director, an important strength has been gained through his knowledge as a competent compliance expert, as well as a reliable Financial Planner. In comparison with some other financial adviser companies , Perceptive Planning is small: but for me "Small is Beautiful". Every team member in the office is pleasant and anxious to deal with any enquiries in a fast and efficient way. There is no doubt that over the passed 3 years I have been more relaxed over the handling if my portfolios than ever before.

What could they have done better?

I hope Shannon Currie,s own business plan is not to grow too large when that close relationship between client and adviser may well suffer.
