I had recently had some money left as inheritance and wanted to invest it. I didn’t know whether it be in a pension or otherwise. I also wanted advice on my current and previous pension plans

Vey approachable and understanding, if his knowledge is as good as his manner, John would be easy to do business with. However John felt he could not offer more than I already had so, after a longish chat, he simply left his business card should I wish to contact him again in the future. His charges for service were not discussed.

Arrived exactly at the arranged time. A friendly and amenable person John was able to answer my questions and clarify some information to my benefit. My wife and I completed a form to enable him to collect a range of quotations for annuities. We will meet again when he has received this information. We were both pleased with the result. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My partner was due to retire & had two pensions with two different providers. We started looking into what we should do with these, but the more we looked the more complicated it seemed to get. We didn't have the knowledge or the understanding to know what the correct decisions would be for us, & were apprehensive we would make the wrong ones & it should prove costly in the long run.

How has John Hartley helped you?

John explained all of the options that were available in plain English, and didn't mind when he had to repeat something because we didn't understand the first time. He spent a lot of time ascertaining what we wanted the pensions to provide for us in the future, & then set about helping us to achieve these goals. The fact that he's a very friendly and down to earth guy helped the process immensely.......he's never in a rush & is very patient so you don't feel pressured in any way. This is the first time we've had to seek help with financial planning & it was quite a daunting prospect, but John inspired a lot of confidence from the very first meeting & this has continued all the way through.

We are very happy with the outcome of the advice & help we've received from John. We would definitely recommend him & I intend to use his services when the time comes to sort my own pensions out.

Where do i start . . . . Ive known John many years, as far back as school, and even then he was a genuine, kind and thoughtful person. Cannot recommend John enough, his attention to detail regarding what products are best for each individual client is his strong point. john is a very down to earth Yorkshire man who calls a shovel a shovel so there's no fear of getting blinded by big words & technical jargon he tells everything how it is in plain English. Any problems or issue's you have John will always sort them out with best advice & he's always upfront with everything. I have recommended John's services on many occasions to both family & friends.

John has always fully explained every step of the way what he is doing, because sometimes financial talk can be hard to understand! He's always smartly dressed and on time for our appointments. He spends alot of time listening to my needs, before advising us with always more than one way to choose what he feels us right for us and we are comfortable with. John always let's us know how much the cost will be before he goes ahead, so your never hit with unpleasant bill you didn't expect. I would defiantly recommend john, he's now become not only our financial advisor, but also a very good friend. It's always a pleasure to pop our kettle on for johns visits. A good nights contented sleep is always had after his visits.

I was recommended I got in touch with John by a family member who always uses him and in all honesty in the short time that I have known John I find him very easy to speak to and his knowledge expertise and guidance is first class. He will tell you exactly what charges you will have to pay and understands what your risks/needs are now and will be in the future and he will reassess your options in the future making sure that you're getting the best for your money. I left John to sort out things whilst I was in Australia for eight weeks on my return everything was sorted set up and running..... "no worries"

When I retired I knew nothing about pensions and annuities but it was all explained to me in a straight forward manner and made easy to understand. We worked out how much we required per month and based on the information he was able to advise me of the best investments to suit our pockets he was also able to advice us how we could also get a pension for my wife in the event of my death which wasn't available on my existing pension provider. Every thing happened on the dates and times we agreed which made retirement very easy. He is very good at communicating with people and making what seems to be a complicated issue ( sorting pensions) very easy.

Previously with another advisor we had been told that we needed around £170/month of life / critical illness insurance etc. when buying our 1st house. As this was the first time we had needed such products, we had little knowledge of what we needed. After speaking to John, he researched our requirements and it became clear we actually needed less than half this amount. He clearly illustrated the costs and features of the cover that he suggested. He also worked on some mortgage quotes too, which we did take up in the end, but there was absolutely no pressure.

John is an "Advisor" in every sense of that word. Unlike most IFA's, he is not sales motivated. It is a refreshing change to deal with someone not motivated by selling financial products which don't necessarily meet my needs. His proactive approach to financial planning has already put me in a much stronger position. With his help and advice, I hope to build upon this foundation so that my future is financially secure.
