What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

We were looking to buy our first house and needed advice on the best mortgage product to get.

How has Richard James Mumford helped you?

Richard helped get us exactly the mortgage we were looking for. He explained the process thoroughly and was always on hand to answer questions or contact the banks or solicitors if something came up.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Having been with the same financial adviser for many years Richard was a breath of fresh air looking helping me with his knowledge in Purchasing Warehouse with my Pension Fund, advising me with regard to setting up savings plan's for my Grand Children and offering me a fresh look at my future financial planning. Although we have only been working together for a few months I look forward to Richards continued assistance with my future financial planning.

How has Richard James Mumford helped you?

From the first time I contacted him I got the impression that he was keen to work with me (unlike another local IFA who should complete disdain - perhaps he misunderstood how much money I was looking to invest) but having made clear after the initial meeting that I was not prepared to be rushed he duly waited for me to contact him. As my wife was unable to attend the first meeting and so requested a further meeting. Having expected to be charged I was very pleased that this meeting was 'off the clock' and within the first few minutes sensed that my wife's scepticism about him (as in all IFA's) had dissipated. He convinced us both that he would do his utmost to deliver the most appropriate service for our needs with our primary aim of not losing money central to his financial planning proposals. He has twice mentioned that his advice to me would be what he would give to his own father and while this made me feel a bit old more importantly it conveyed reassurance and a sense of genuine care for our financial well-being. While we have been content with our returns so far, Richard has challenged the company with whom the vast amount of our money is invested to offer us a more diverse portfolio to provide even better returns. We were obvious to this but having checked with me he has approached the firm on our behalf. In essence you get the clear impression that he is on your side and that the relationship is more than a cold business one.

What could they have done better?

I answered the value for money question in a more negative way than I should have liked but as I have no comparators regarding fees it was the most accurate response I could give. Perhaps this is more one for the industry rather than individual IFAs but in my view it would be helpful to have fees published similar to a comparison site for say car insurance rather than have to pore over detailed documents.

I have known Richard since 2008 when he worked through my historical pension mess, I have since worked with him over the past two years to set my husband and I on the right path for Isa investments, Life Insurance and child savings. I find Richard good to work with in communicating the necessary information we need to know to make the right decisions. I feel confident that Richard understands our overall goals, is realistic for what we can afford and is helping us to set ourselves up sensibly for the future. I would highly recommend his services. He is also a very nice chap!
