What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

My pension scheme at work was being changed so I decided to review my choices before autoenrolling on the new scheme.

How has Nicholas Pratt helped you?

I consulted the pension planner when my work introduced a new pension scheme. I had previously had a stakeholder pension and whilst it's a long time till I will retire, I felt it would be a good point to review how that was doing, and what my best choices were going forwards. I know very little about financial planning but Nick explained everything thoroughly so I was fully informed at each stage of the decision. I was very impressed with the level of detail given in his presentation. I would happily recommend the Pension Planner to anyone who is looking into their retirement plans.

The Pension Planner has been our first use of professional financial advisors and we have been very pleased. We are happy with the way our investments are being set up but it is too early to say about the outcome. I felt it was not fair to rate 'value for money' at this stage with the star ratings because our money has only been with Th Pension Planner for four months.

What could they have done better?

So far, there is nothing to comment on. Value for money will be possible to assess after about a year, so I don't think this site should have it as a required field for being able to review the services provided.

I had investments that were just basically drifting along. I was not being informed of their performance and had no guidance regarding what I could do to improve my return.

excellent service I went to pension planner looking for honest clear advice on how best to invest my savings. My previous provider offered little or no advice so I didn't know whether I was doing the right thing or not. Now I feel confident that my money is protected and working for me. What were the circumstances that caused you to initially look for an adviser?

I had been contributing to a personal pension for many years and reached the stage where I felt that I needed some additional guidance on whether or not my money was invested correctly and what level of fund management was being carried out on a day to day basis.

How has Nicholas Pratt helped you?

Nick initially visited my house on a fact finding mission to gather information on my current pension plan. At this time I explained other investments I had. He then took away the information he needed for assessment. On the second visit Nick brought me up to speed on the results of the analysis his company had carried out. I was then advised on my existing pension and investments. Following this clearly set out explanation I then took the advise to make the necessary adjustments recommended.

Have you seen the outcome you were hoping for?

Yes the outcome was satisfactory. I now see my pensions and investments on a single platform that I can monitor on a daily basis from my computer or phone. I also receive more regular updates than my previous platform. Most important I have a contact that I can speak face to face with.

What could they have done better?

Prior to the initial visit it would have been good to have been advised if possible for me to make copies of my current pensions and investments paperwork. This would have helped Nick in his initial information gathering exercise.

Pension review and advice After my employer had closed the final salary pension scheme, I was left with a decision of where to invest my funds for a defined contribution pension.having not needed to understand pensions before I really was not in a position to understand what would be best for me. I was recommended Nick Pratt at The Pension Planner. He sat down and listened to my needs and within days he came back to me with information as to where to invest my funds inline with the degree of risk I was prepared to take. Having heard the tales from my ex colleagues about the time it takes and the problems faced in arranging an annuity through our pension scheme I started the process 8 months in advance. The company scheme was a trust based scheme and engaged the services of The Open Market Annuity Service so I contacted them for a quotation; the replies I received indicated that they could not give me a quotation until I had retired - what a waste of time. At this point I looked around for an independent financial advisor who was registered by the FCA and thankfully found The Pension Planner who was only 15 mins from home. The reviews on TrustPilot and Vouched For gave me comfort that my choice was a good one.

How has Nicholas Pratt helped you?

During the initial meeting with Nick Pratt we examined the various options for my 4 pension schemes plus of course the State pension. Even though this is an initial meeting it was still quite in depth. We concluded that an annuity at this time was not in our best interest. My wife and I decided to combine the three defined contributions schemes into a new pension scheme and then use the drawdown route to take a monthly income; as the remainder is still invested it will be increasing in value (based on past performance). We have engaged The Pension Planner to monitor the performance of the new scheme to ensure it is still providing the best option for our needs as time progresses. Throughout the process both Nick, Steve and the team have provided a professional service and explained the process and options in a way that the non financial person can understand. I have no hesitation in recommending The Pension Planner to anyone who is looking to sort out their pensions either well in advance of or at retirement (indeed I have done so to my ex work colleagues).

There was a slight complication in that one of my occupational pensions was a trust based scheme that required a certain level of authority which at that time The Pension Planner did not have in house. I have just retired and prior to this contacted Nick to review my financial situation, my current savings and investments and also how to invest a lump sum payable when I retired. I haven't previously sought financial advice and had minimal investments and ISA's within the banking sector which over the past few years have provided very little interest. Nick is very easy to deal with and explains all the information in a clear and concise manner. He has recommended investment opportunities for my lump sum and also provided me with an alternative way of investing my ISA allowance that is going to provide a far superior return to what ive previously experienced. Throughout my dealings with Nick over the last few weeks he has been very thorough, his communication by email, texts and meetings cant be faulted and ive certainly felt the personal approach rather than just a number. In the past I had not had clear advise in the important matter of pension planning and decided as I neared retirement that I should try and maximise returns, I had several pensions over the years but no real plan, Nick was able to give clear advise that made complete sense without confusing me, he was very patient with my many questions and the whole experience was that of dealing with a trusted advisor , with my best interests at the forefront. I would recommend anyone who has an existing pension to at least discuss this with Nick as I am confident that with his expert guidance much better and safer returns can be made.

I have known and Nick for some years and one of the key things that stands out is that he had a real desire to do the best for me and my family. He has always been open about all the benefits and potential pitfalls of the options and takes the time to explain things clearly in terms I understand. You can see he has a passion for what he does that that he wants to do it well. He has also been very supportive when I needed to sort a trust fund out for my god daughter due to the loss of her dad at an early age. I appreciate that financial advisors have to make money but I really feel that Nick has my best interests at heart and I would consider him an ally not just a FA. Nick is really hard working, friendly and nothing is too much trouble.

What could they have done better?

Nick has always been prompt in dealing with any enquiries but as he seems to be getting busier each year perhaps consider getting some admin help as he seems to be working all hours!

PEACE OF MIND - PRICELESS! Until 5 years ago I managed my own finances without specialist help. I was reasonably happy with the situation but as retirement was fast approaching, I decided that I needed to be absolutely sure that my hard-earned money was being taken care of with maximum effect and that it would perhaps be a good idea to consult a professional financial adviser. I had a preliminary meeting with Nick Pratt and I can honestly say that I have never looked back. Nick has always explained things in a clear manner and if there has been the rare occasion when I have not altogether understood something, he has been very patient in clarifying matters. Perfectly planned my pension Over the years I have paid in to several different pensions, both company and private and I wanted to review my options to make sure I was getting the best return for my retirement. I shopped around online and ended up speaking to Nick at the pension planner. He took my details and after a couple of weeks we met up to discuss my options and after he provided me with a recommendation for my pension plan and his reasons for it, I was very happy to put my retirement plans in his capable hands. Nick Pratt has been providing high quality financial advice for us now for more than five years. We are thrilled with our relationship with Nick, who always takes the time to thoroughly understand our financial goals, tailor his advice to our specific needs and explain his recommendations and plans to us in a manner that is so easy to understand. Every question we have raised is answered to our satisfaction and the investments Nick has recommended to us have helped greatly in raising the value of our portfolio. Over the years, we have found that Nick is constantly striving for ways to improve the quality the business and the excellent service he provides to us. We receive regular financial news updates by e-mail and a company magazine during the year, which contains topical and interesting articles. I am still saving for retirement and therefore have been able to benefit recently from advice offered by Nick and his colleague Andrew Hursthouse through ‘the Pension Planner’. Getting the right advice at this stage of my pension planning is equally as important to that when taking a pension upon retirement, as good advice will undoubtedly increase the value of my fund. In my case, following a series of meetings with Nick and Andy, where my attitude to risk and targets for my pension fund were discussed in great depth, they produced a bespoke financial plan to actively manage my fund, to achieve both a good level of growth and equally importantly, decrease the level of risk as I near retirement, by progressively moving some of the fund to safer asset types. The plan and its performance will be reviewed regularly by Nick and Andy, so that adjustments to it can be made to the plan if necessary. The word ‘pension’ can fill many people with horror, so complex is the subject. However, the brilliant Pension Planner website covers every aspect of pension planning and terminology in great detail. The great thing though is it written in uncomplicated, no nonsense terms, that everyone can understand and is a site everyone about to take their pension should have a look at. I’ve already recommended an ex-colleague to Nick, who has been equally impressed with Nick’s service and I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Pension Planer team to anyone. A financial service as good as theirs isn’t found easily.

From a personal point of view we are very happy with every service provided to us. Improvement to our already first class service will be delivered by the continuous training and CPD being undertaken by regularly by Nick and Andy.
